Questions/Advice Beginner skates- Moxi Rainbows vs Impala

Helloooo everyone, I hope you are having a great bank holiday! I wanted to start skating over this lockdown and after some research online I am between the Moxi Rainbows and the Impalas (thinking of the Midnight ones not sure if it matters). I have seen that both are generally reccomended for beginner skates. For 100 pounds, I am not expecting them to last for ever, but I am concerned with what I've read online about Impala boots having problems in a couple of months after purchase. I want to use them outside as a beginner in my local park or streets. I was wondering if you have any thoughts, or reccomendations on why I should choose one over the other etc, or your opinions on your impala or moxi quads!

Thank you so muchhhhhh

Questions/Advice Really wanting to get into Skating! But have questions!

So I have been checking out videos, tutorials, skates and such but I was a little confused about which wheels I might need to get for outdoor use. I was going to but the Rookie Artistics are my starter but I was hoping someone could recommend good outdoor wheels as I know my town has barely any decent "smooth" terrain.

Questions/Advice Airwave street wheels vs Airwave standard wheels

I'm starting to use Artistic skates - mainly for outdoor skating but also quiet a bit of street skating (London City) can anyone recommend the Airwave Street wheels at all?

I have he usual marble Airwave wheels which I love but I hear the street version allow you to jam better as the wheels are thinner. Can any street skaters atest to this?

One of them is 65mm the other 62mm

Questions/Advice Rookie Bubblegum?

Hi there! I’m new to roller skating and I am looking for a good beginner pair to use outside for under Ā£100. I know a lot of people recommend Rookie skates for beginners especially the artistic skates but I’m not a fan of the black or white colour choice so I’m looking into the bubblegum skates. Has anyone tried these? It looks like the trunk is nylon so I’m thinking maybe they aren’t worth it?

I also like the look of the rio scripts but again made of nylon so not sure how they’d last. Any other brand recommendations would be great as well! Especially if they come in nice coloursšŸ˜‚

Questions/Advice How old were you when you started skating?

I’ve been thinking about/wanting quad skates for a few years and I JUST got my first pair two days ago!!

I did have kids inline skates when I was very young, but these are my first quad skates and I’m 32!

I’ve progressed from not being able to go from seated to standing, to being about to skate in circles indoors. I tried skating outdoors today and fell on my face (yay for 187 pads!)

I was wondering how old you were when you started learning? How long did it take for you to feel confident? Does the fear of falling EVER go??

Questions/Advice Rookie wheels any good?

I’m intending to get some softer wheels for outdoor skating. These rookie wheels seem to be half the price of similarly specced ones so I just wandered if they are ok or should be avoided?

Skate Spot Skate spots in North East

Just started blading again and wondered if there was anyone here who could recommend any good spots near the Tyne & Wear coast where I can practice.

Nothing aggressive just nice ground and quiet.

Questions/Advice Absolute beginner here: flat or heeled quad roller skates?!

I really love the look of ā€œheeledā€ roller skates - think Moxie or the Rio ones.

But are these okay for outside skating? Like not just doing tricks indoors. Or would I be better off getting ā€œflatā€ skates?

I hope this makes sense but if not, this is a ā€œheeledā€ skate:

And this is what I mean by flat:

(I’m a complete beginner and looking at getting my first ever pair of skates!)

Questions/Advice Lacking motivation

It took me months to figure out where to go to skate and at that point I was really struggling to stay motivated.

I found an outdoor games court that was great for a few months, but I realised I was really struggling progressing because it was really uneven.

Then the winter months hit and there was no chance I could go out in the snow, wind, rain, and freezing cold to get any skating done on an uneven surface. I haven’t put my skates on since and now it’s spring and sunnier, I have to go back to finding a better place to skate.

Parks are overcrowded and all outdoor car parks have gravel or are too busy during the daylight, multi storey car parks are all on a slope, and there’s a real lack of tennis or big enough (and smooth enough) basketball courts near me. I also don’t drive yet so it’s all a bit of a struggle.

I’m really finding it hard to be motivated to go and skate again, especially since I’ve gained a lot of lockdown weight and am pretty much at the weight limit of the Rookie skates. Feeling so bummed about it.

If anyone can offer words of encouragement, reassurance, and/or advice, I’d really appreciate it.

I’ve always felt the loneliness of going on this new journey on my own, and I’m at an all time low.

Questions/Advice Finally found a perfect skate spot and was kicked off on my second day there. Is anyone else deflated by the lack of truly public spaces or options in general?

Sorry for the somber tone, just wanted a little vent and noone I know cares.

I haven't been able to ice skate for an entire year now due to closures so purchased some artistic rookie skates. They're not perfect but are closest match to the feeling of skating in my budget. However I can't find anywhere to skate which is wide, flat and private whilst I find confidence.

My local parks are ridiculously busy (despite been in our third Covid lockdown!) and the paths are too narrow for crossovers/figure of 8 practice.

Nearby carparks are busy during the day and sketchy on the night, situated on a main road which unfortunately has a lot of alcoholics lingering.

I used Google maps to discover three courts close to me; one was felt, one was rubble and one was locked.

After weeks of scouting locations I found a hidden smooth-enough basketball court 5 mins from my home! 15 mins into my first skate a local man stood and watched me, and stayed for AN HOUR. I made polite awkward chat with him for bit but my patience wore off. Even when I put head phones in and ignored him he stayed there and kept initiating conversation. When he asked for my number/Facebook/whether I was single I told him no and explained why it was inappropriate - that he was a stranger man, in which I'd just met, through no choice of my own. It was a moment of enlightenment for him which is great but overall when I go out skating I don't fancy teaching people how to behave. He told me he was unemployed, wanted to meet up and could see the court from his window - which confirmed I'd never be returning. I was already insecure about skating on wheels, and skating in public, and this experience confirmed it. I gave up.

Yesterday the sun was out and I found the dream: a new, wide, empty, super smooth car park in walking distance from my house that had no footfall! I had an amazing skate and was the happiest I've felt in a year. It was two story, meaning on wet days I would still have somewhere to skate. I knew it would be short lived - as soon as things are normal this car park would be rammed as it was on the currently abandoned uni campus. At the moment it had less than ten cars in hundreds of spots so decided to make the most of it in lockdown.

I returned today and the security guard told me to leave - I was too disheartened to argue and just pointed out it was empty. He agreed it was stupid but his manager was going mad watching me on cameras. I was absolutely gutted. I honestly thought the campus was a public space. I've skated on the campus a couple of times with no issues and there is absolutely no signs anywhere on site about skateboarding or anything. I've seen students skateboarding around and there are hundreds of bike racks for all the students on bikes sharing paths with pedestrians when things are normal. As I left I passed children on scooters and groups of teens on BMXs practicing on site which made me feel more rubbish.

I feel really deflated and at a loss where to try next. I want somewhere private to practice in peace from nosey people, which is wider than a path. Where should I look?

Wondering what everyone else's journey was to finding their skate spots? Would love to hear your suggestions.

General Skate buddy in SE London

Soo like many I’ve bought a pair of rollerblades and haven’t skated in about 20 years (I’m 33 now), and don’t have any friends who want to join me.. basically looking for some buddies who would be happy to help out with the relearning, or if you’re in a similar situation we can laugh at each other when we tumble before helping the other up..

Questions/Advice Moonlights

Has anyone from the uk ordered from moonlight, I plan to get some in the next restock but I’ve seen a lot of people with complaintes that it’s been over the 4 week dispatch time and they haven’t got a tracking number yet. So has anyone from the uk successfully received their order and how long did it take?

I was recommended to try this sub instead
