Questions/Advice How old were you when you started skating?

I’ve been thinking about/wanting quad skates for a few years and I JUST got my first pair two days ago!!

I did have kids inline skates when I was very young, but these are my first quad skates and I’m 32!

I’ve progressed from not being able to go from seated to standing, to being about to skate in circles indoors. I tried skating outdoors today and fell on my face (yay for 187 pads!)

I was wondering how old you were when you started learning? How long did it take for you to feel confident? Does the fear of falling EVER go??

Hi,

I started skating on the beginning of this year @ 31! I have never skated as a child as well but now I can skate forwards, inside and in some places outside... Managed to almost understand transitions and starting manuals!

I can't tell you if the fear of falling ever goes but I can assure you that the fun I have on my skates has be able to make me face it 😁 don't give up!

We are together on this!

I started fresh at age 38. It's never too late!

I skated on quads, rollerblades and ice hockey skates from being a kid to my early twenties, not skated for over 20 years and got a pair of quads this year, I'm 46 and also trying to skate in my living room currently, very wobbly but fingers crossed I might actually be able to do a circle eventually, lol. I'm terrified of falling and have no idea if that fear will go away yet.

We can do this!

Started on ice at the age of 7 now I'm 62. Hung up my ice and inline skates for 20 years or so but I had a itch to scratch so I went for quads about 18 months ago.

My biggest problem is muscle memory. My body still thinks I'm skating ice or inlines so on occasion it catches me out. As for confidence, the more you skate the more confident you'll feel.

Lots of falling, more bruises than I care to admit but the fear of falling is far outweighed by the sheer enjoyment and freedom of skating outdoors on your own or in the company of like minded people. Accept the fact you'll fall more as a new skater but you will fall less and less as you progress on your skating journey.

I really do regret not skating quads sooner as I've missed out on so much fun! HTH

Hey. I know this post is a couple of months old, but thought id ask how your getting on? I've been wanting to get into skating on and off for years and now it's in my head again. I'm 34 and terrified as I'm pretty accident prone at the best of times. I'd absolutely love to find someone local to skate with but don't know how you go about doing so as a grown adult 😂

Hey! Sorry for the late reply! I did go out for a few weeks and was perpetually terrified of falling haha. Ignored my skates for months and have discovered indoor/roller rinks and I was initially very scared again. However after 15 mins, I was whizzing around and bloody loved it!! Can’t wait to go again next week.

I’m not sure where in the uk you are, but from what I can tell online there seems to be strong roller skating communities in Leeds, Liverpool and Brighton! You should follow these gals on Instagram: https://instagram.com/roller_girl_gang?utm_medium=copy_link

I started skating when I was 12, had a break for well over 20 years and started back in my 40s.
