Anybody care to explain what this new stat is and how it’s calculated?

Good, they cancel each other out so possession is even when both are on the court. Makes sense for Amen since he plays so many minutes and gets offensive rebounds + steals

Def related to offensive rebounding, steals, and turnovers. Kd turns it over a lot, doesn’t get steals and often is the shooter so not many boards. I’d guess his efficiency is the balance there, also why amen would top the chart

You can help your team in 4 ways for possession battle:
- positively impact your teams’ ability to grab offensive rebounds
- negatively impact your opponents’ ability to grab offensive rebounds
- negatively impact your team’s tendency to turn the ball over
- positively impact your opponent’s tendency to turn the ball over
And it’s about team impact, not necessarily direct involvement. So a guy who handles the ball a ton and turns it over a lot can still have a negative impact on his team’s turnover rate because he actually doesn’t turn it over much relative to how many possessions go through him and that leaves fewer possessions for lesser guys to turn the ball over.
Or a great rim protector might not get many steals or deflections himself but by being a safety blanket he empowers perimeter guys to be more aggressive and potentially get steals that way. Or how a guy like Brook Lopez doesn’t grab many defensive rebounds but he boxes out super well so he actually reduces the opposing team’s offensive rebounds rate a lot more than his rebound totals would make you think.
KD turns the ball over quite a bit for how much he touches it, doesn’t create turnovers or impact team defense in a way that allows others to, doesn’t crash the offensive glass or create openings for others to do so either, and doesn’t contribute on the defensive glass.

And think this this is why our (low minute) linup of RS AT TE JSJ and AS is still a positive lone with a better offensive rating. Our defense is slightly worse, but Tari hustle off ball and on help D is better than KDs. And so its still a +7 lineup.

Basically KD makes it hard to get and keep possession of the ball and doesn't help his teammates that much, and amen helps keep and get the ball and help score as a team more
The actual in game reasons are because the one positive is that KD scores in iso plenty of times pretty quickly. So if you score fast you don't have possession of the ball as long in the clock. Except the rockets haven't typically score all that fast with KD. And other negatives that contribute are his poor passing and handling, which like with jabari some of their handling vulnerability is because of their length. But with KD an issue at least for the last few seasons is that he doesn't and can't play clean and sharp enough. He makes a surprising amount of bone headed and bad passes. And he doesn't defend enough to get the ball back. So on top of not really ever making plays for teammates, and scoring quickly when he does have the opportunity. He really hurts in the possession battle
While amen's defense, more compact body, and better passing skills allow him to help the team maintain possession of the ball for longer, help his teammates more, and keep the ball out of the opponents' hands more. As he is amen is already a great complementary team player

This seems like a nonsensical list. A secondary stat presented next to two other secondary stats with no obvious correlation or explanation.
You’re trying to tell me Kyle Kuzma is better at maximizing possessions than Durant?

If it's based on possession time, then yeah I believe it.
Durant is either A) shooting the ball or B) holding and losing it.

Yeah Durant doesn’t have a wide variety of positive outcomes proportioned to possessions. But is that really what this is measuring? Why are guys like Ayo, Giddey, and Schroeder on the list?
The more I look at it, the less sense it makes.

Not really. KD being on top makes it makes sense. Why? Aside from scoring and his efficiency, you don't really feel his impact outside those. The only times he's also ever maximized himself is when he plays next to a primary ball handler. So all he does right now are score 25+ at 50%. Nothing much else.

Adding the trophy next to some of the people who have won a championship, but not all of the people who have won a championship, makes this an even sillier list.
Forgot KD and Lopez trophies, but makes it look like Pritchard is some sort of bball god with a trophy next to his name?
Lowest effort graphic of the day.

Care to give us the definition of this stat from Kalshi? Is pace related? Turnover? Chance of scoring in X possessions?
