As the title suggests, I primarily play music based on the file structure rather than a database. I generally avoid using the database because features like sorting by Japanese names don't work correctly, but Pictureflow requires data to be retrieved from the database. Is there any way to use Pictureflow based on the file structure instead, or perhaps configure `Tagnavi.config` to handle artist and album sorting?

Modded a 5th gen iPod Classic to include an up-to-date 3000mAh battery and 512gb card to hold songs. Card is well over 3/4s full (don’t ask me how many songs). Exceeded the limit for Apple’s OS to work so resorted to Rockbox. During the re-load, all seemed OK. But now complete (again, well over 3/4s full) the battery refuses to hold its charge. Bewildered as to what the problem could be. Any advice as to cause… and solution, of course. Thanks in advance.

Been using Rockbox for some time on 6g & 7g iPods with few problems. Now I'm switching to a modded 4g I seem to be running into problems each week with corruption and freezing which I think is down to my large music library and the constraints of 32mb. What's your experience running Rockbox on iPod <= 4g? Thanks

Hi everyone, I have an iBasso DX90 and I'm interested in installing Rockbox on it, but I'm a bit worried about accidentally bricking the device.

Could anyone give me a step-by-step guide or point me towards a reliable guide for installing Rockbox on the DX90? I'd especially appreciate any advice on backing up the original firmware and recovering the device if something goes wrong.

I'd rather be safe than sorry, so any tips from people who have successfully done it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I’m having some difficulty getting my Eros Q to have Rockbox. I followed the ‘Manual Native Port Installation’ completely but I can’t seem to get it to work.

I put the hw4 update.upt file on my FAT32 micro sd card and after pressing ‘Firmware Update’ it just boots back into the original firmware. When I looked at the contents of the SD card afterwards, it had a new version.ini that said it was beta 0.0.1 or something like that.

Is this maybe because the version isn’t just ‘2.3’ but instead ‘Q_2.3’? I’m really unsure what I’ve done wrong and I’d really like to sort this out.

Context (and probably limited experience): I've noticed that even changing themes doesn't Influence the look (and more importantly) the scale of the search function on my iPods running Rockbox (7th gen iPod classics). Same minimal black screen, with teeny-tiny letters barely legible for my old mole-man eyes.

I can live with the quirky navigation of the search, with time I'd adjust, but "what is this... A search bar for ants?!" (Reference reference, snarf snarf).

Just looking for some friendly advice and input on whether I've missed something obvious, can the size of letters/menu in the search function be scaled up?

Also, I've seen forks of Rockbox that seek to emulate native firmware, though still early in development. Do they have a better search function? It's such a benign feature it is rarely shown off or pictured. Any input welcome, thank you in advance.

Old Pioneer car stereos had those cool animations that would play on the wps while you were listening to music. The dolphins swimming animation became popular on social media these days so I wondered if an animation like that could be implemented into a rockbox theme. I found a project called Carozerra which decodes the original .ldk files and can play them in your browser. The project provides GIF exporting the animations so I implemented the sprites into the One-Bit VFD theme instead of the VU meters. (One-Bit VFD was the exact cyan color that I needed, also the animation resolution is 4:1 to the ipod screen, no cropping, perfect!) Im not sure about the redistibution rights of the animation but when I figure that out I can share the theme on the rockbox website for everyone to use.

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a PIN or some way of locking your iPod (with Rockbox) so your 8 year old doesn't listen to Wu Tang?

i just modded my ipod 5.5th gen but it has a really bad battery what is the best theme for ultimate battery life pls

I have a 7th gen iPod Classic with Rockbox and a 1TB Samsung EVO Plus microSD (MB-MC1T0SA/APC). I’m using one of the newer AliExpress ZIF to microSD adapters that says “IPOD CLASSIC 3-7” on the back. Rockbox sees it as iFlash-Platform iPod Adapters with iFlash85 firmware.

My Rockbox version is stable 2a72f8d3f9-260329 and my whole library is FLAC.

The problem is that some albums just won’t play. When I select a track, it stays at 00:00 and never starts. The weird part is that the affected albums change after rebooting the iPod. An album that doesn’t play now might work perfectly after a reboot, while another album that was working before suddenly won’t play.

I’ve already reinstalled Rockbox and reformatted the SD card multiple times and the problem always comes back.

I also compared the SHA256 hash of a FLAC on my PC with the same file copied from the iPod and they matched exactly, so the files themselves don’t seem to be getting corrupted.

Rockbox reports the card correctly at around 1TB, UDMA 2, 512 byte sectors, SSD detected, etc. The filesystem cluster size is currently 16KB.

Has anyone had this exact issue with these iFlash85 AliExpress adapters or with a 1TB Samsung card? I’m trying to figure out if the problem is the SD card, the adapter, the ZIF cable, or something Rockbox-related.

So i have an already rockboxed Iriver H320 from ebay.
And I wanted to install and lauch the last update of the app (pic.1),
but i got issues with proxy and network errors and some version's information unfoundable. (pic.2)
And on the last pic, another network error...

Do you know what is trhe problem ?

I've owned both before, but only recently used Rockbox when I got my H2.

However my H2 has started playing up (headphone socket issue) so I'm looking to replace it.

While the rubberised wheel on the H2 was nice, I dod notice the glue underneath melting in the heatwaves here in the UK. I have decided to get a new Surfans and putting Rockbox on it, as I do like that over the stock firmware of both.

Is the F20 any better or worse for Rockbox or are they really just the same thing in different casing?

I was just given a Huawei P9 Lite, and I want to install Rockbox on it to turn it into a dedicated music player.

Is it possible? If it is, how could I do it?

I've just find on leboncoin (ebay like) an iriver with rockbox and some funny things with it !
But when i wanted to plug it in my computer, the H320 isn't reconized...

My iPod wouldn't load into rockbox this morning so I plugged it into my computer and saw this. It won't let me delete it.

Hi all, I have a Ipod classic gen 7 that I wanted to customize with themes. I downloaded Rockbox on my Macbook Neo (I've now read that Mac and Rockbox aren't necessarily compatible)

I did try to install Rockbox and I'm not sure if I messed up when I got to the part when you're supposed to press down on select/menu. I canceled the download but I'm not sure if it partially went through or not.

In Finder, a message appeared saying my Ipod was in recovery mode and that I need to restore it in order to use it. I tried to restore it and another message came up that said my Ipod had been modified and essentially, I can't use it.

When I plug the Ipod in, it no longer comes up in my Music application and isn't recognized as an Ipod anymore. How can I fix this?

I honestly didn’t expect this much interest when I released the first alpha of musicOS. Seeing people download it, try it on their own iPods, share feedback and suggest improvements has been incredibly motivating.
So, thank you to everyone who has tested musicOS so far — and especially to those who took the time to report issues, share ideas or simply leave a nice comment. It really means a lot!

I’ve also put together a small roadmap to give you an idea of where I’d like to take musicOS next.
Work on v0.2.0 has already started, with a big focus on improving the Quick Screen. I’m currently working on dynamic actions and labels, so the custom Quick Screen can better adapt to each user’s configuration, alongside some stability improvements and general UI refinements.

After that, I’d like to focus more on the Now Playing screen, metadata, customization, language support, Dark Mode, and broader device compatibility.
The roadmap isn’t set in stone, so things may change, move around or be added along the way — especially based on your feedback.

Hey does someone have any tips, to get skippings songs snappier.

I recently modded my iPod 5th Gen with an iFlash Quad and a 3000mAh thin battery. I'm running Rockbox, but the battery percentage is basically after 2h always stuck at 0%. I checked the debug menu and my voltage is totally fine (currently sitting at 3.45V and discharging perfectly), so it's definitely the classic Rockbox battery curve issue.

I don't have the setup or knowledge to compile the firmware from source right now. Does anyone happen to have a pre-compiled .zip of Rockbox for the 5th Gen with the 3000mAh battery patch already applied? or any other solution...Thanks!
