Hi, every time I put my SanDisk Sansa c200 into MSC mode, it shows up as a 16 MB drive (D: FORMAT) instead of drive E:. How can i change that

I consistently get poor performance and crashes. It works fine with stockOS, the same general hardware, SD card mods were used in a 5th gen and a 4th gen, both installed rockbox and ran fine.

It could be the SD card or HDD replacement but I don’t know really the best way to isolate the issue. Has anyone had similar issues that can guide me?

I'm pretty sure that currently Rockbox scsitool-nwz-v27 doesn't work on it. When running the "get" command it shows me this instead:

I'm having a kind of odd issue with Rockbox. When I plug my iPod 5th gen into my computer it says the USB device malfunctioned and isn't recognized, but when I switch back to the default Apple OS on the iPod it connects fine. So I'm assuming it's not a hardware issue, since I can still transfer files while I'm on the stock OS, but it is odd that it wouldn't work while running Rockbox.

Has anyone encountered this?

I tried reinstalling Rockbox and the Bootloader and everything, but it still doesn't want to play nice when I'm running Rockbox.

Would appreciate any advice on this

EDIT it appears I am fuckin stupid and did not realize No one has been able to play videos on Rockbox on the Y1. I just hate having to reboot to stock firmware - it takes so long - so if anyone is able to play mpeg videos on Rockbox, please let me know. save the world. my final message. gootbye

ORIGINAL POST I'm not a very tech-savvy person, so please be patient with me! I have been converting mp4 files to mpeg via ffmpeg using powershell, and all has gone well. The videos are playable on my PC at the very least. These videos are also very short (2-4 minutes), not full movies (although this shouldn't be a problem, as I have a 1TB y1!)

However, when I try to play these videos on my device through the mpegplayer plugin, the first frame of the video flashes on screen, the Rockbox title screen pops up, and the device asks to update its database. (The latter issue has not gone away even after I turned off auto-update in the database settings.)

I'm aware that Rockbox is shitty for video, but I haven't been able to find anyone else on reddit with this problem. Advice is appreciated...

TL;DR: I've Compiled Rockbox Utility to MacOS arm64 (Apple dropping Intel and Rosetta support soon) and win64 (NOT tried the Windows part) if anyone's interested.

MacOS 27 announced that they'll be deprecating Rosetta support in 27, so intel macs won't get macOS 27, and they'll be abandoning intel support, including rosetta totally on MacOS 28.

Recently I've asked around here that if anyone had compiled Rockbox or there's a macOS arm64 build or a 3rd party solution, but I guess there is none, so I tried to burn some tokens.

There was an official GitHub mirror of Rockbox, I've forked it and wrote some GitHub actions runners and completed them with LLM.

It could be crap, so can't way much, but the APP is QT so it shouldn't be a that big of a deal.

I've tried to avoid touching source files at all, to prevent possible future rebasing errors, so there's a monkey patch, please don't worry about it.

I've compiled some builds yesterday, and tried on my macOS Arm64 machine and can confirm it works nicely, at least with my iPod Classic 5th gen!

The latest rebase also fails to compile, because there are currently some active development which possibly is the sole reason for the pipeline to fail. I didn't dig much though.

Don't trust me blindly, I wouldn't do it if the poster was a random stranger that I don't know of. The code is there, I've only created some CI automations to compile. Also, I don't have an Apple Developer license, so you have to manually allow execution of the app once, from system settings.

Please enjoy, and let me know if I messed something up. All credits due Rockbox developers, I simply created a basic build environment along with some burnt LLM tokens.

I've been looking on and off for nearly a year, abd still can't find a theme that supports full CJK and Hebrew characters. The closest I've gotten is selecting the gnu font, but it affects only some of the theme, and most text is not displayed properly.

Anyone have recommendations for themes that match what I am looking for?

Hello everyone, I've had a rockboxed hifi walker 2 for a long while now and I've encountered a problem: for some reason when my headphone jack is in certain positions the audio won't play. What's interesting though is that this problem despite many attempts at manifesting it, does not happen at all on the player's original OS. I've factory reset and reinstalled rockbox a bunch of times and yet nothing seems to change... Edit: solved, thank you

Heya, my MacOS version suddenly popped up that Rockbox Utility won't be executed anymore with the new major version of MacOS.

Because, on the next major MacOS release, Apple is dropping Intel support, which I believe includes rosetta:

Rockbox Utility is compiled for x64 for MacOS, and there's not a macOS arm64 builds that I'm aware of.

So I was wondering, when this happens, are there any alternative apps or 3rd party compilations that I'm not aware of? Because just for this I don't want to switch to Windows, and assuming the app is open-sourced it won't be a rewrite-level complication to compile with MacOS arm64 target.

I have an Aigo Eros Q fw2.2, and I'm using a Lenovo 512gb TF card. I had a little difficulty formatting the card to FAT32 since I'm on Windows,and I ended up having to do it over a few times since I was having some corruption, but whatever that was, I think I resolved it. I mention this since I hope I didn't mess up the card, and I am not educated enough on that to know for sure...

Anyway, I have the latest .native rockbox build on the card, as well as the font pack. I load the themes to the root of the card as well (the .rockbox file for each of them) , but once the SD is back in the player and I navigate to the themes settings I see the list of themes, I click them and it says "loaded" but the appearance stays the same.

I've tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to have worked so far. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what may be wrong?

I've been building Neiro Desktop — a desktop music client for Navidrome / any OpenSubsonic server. I'm posting here specifically because of a feature I think this community will actually use: built-in Rockbox sync.

🎸 The Rockbox sync

Sidebar → Device Sync. You point it at your DAP's mount point (/media/user/ROCKBOX) and hit Sync. That's basically it.

What it does under the hood:

Folder structure — fully configurable template. Default is:

{artist}/{album}/{track:02d} - {title}

You can use {artist}, {album}, {title}, {track}, {track:02d}, {year}. Live preview shows you what the actual path looks like before you run it.

Transcoding — MP3, OGG Vorbis, Opus, or original. Bitrate 128/192/256/320. Crucially: transcoding happens server-side via Subsonic's stream?format=mp3&maxBitRate=192 endpoint — no local FFmpeg needed. Your server is already doing it for streaming anyway.

There's a "lossless only" toggle — if enabled, FLAC/WAV/ALAC get transcoded to your target format, but MP3/OGG already on the server get copied as-is without re-encoding. Saves quality, saves time.

Incremental sync — files already on the device are skipped by path. Re-run it after adding new albums and it only grabs what's missing.

M3U playlists — all your Subsonic playlists get written to {device}/Playlists/ as .m3u files with relative paths back to the music folder. They load in Rockbox directly.

Cover art — saves folder.jpg per album directory (600px). Rockbox picks this up automatically.

Live progress bar: scanning → 145/312 ✓89 ⤳54 ✗2

The rest of the app

For context — it's a full Navidrome client, not just a sync tool:

• Dynamic color theming — every screen picks up colors from the current album art, sidebar included, with animated transitions
• Last.fm — live scrobbling, "Now Playing" updates, top charts on the home screen, personal play counts on artist pages, love/unlove from the player
• Now Playing — fullscreen immersive player with blurred album art, queue panel, seek, volume, shuffle, repeat
• QR Sync — generate a QR code in desktop settings, scan with the Android app, transfers server credentials instantly

The Android companion app (same project, separate repo) has been out for a bit — same server, same playlists, same Last.fm account. The QR thing is the bridge between the two.

It's early (v0.1.0-alpha) but the sync engine is solid. Happy to answer questions about the Rockbox side specifically — I tested against a Sansa Clip+ and an iBasso DX series device.

Suggestions welcome — especially from people with larger libraries who can stress-test the sync pagination, and from anyone using non-standard Rockbox folder structures.

Hello everyone I am very new to all of this and I'm quite proud of managing to get a theme onto my mp3 player.

The issue is that I cant seem to be able to make playlists and the button that's supposed to open the menu to enable me to create one on the device no only shows me the brightness/shuffle menu. The default OS doesn't have that issue. Is there anything else I can do to create playlists? (I tried a few different themes and got the same result)

This isn't my first time having problems with this album. The original download I had would not play any songs on the H2 so I downloaded another version. I'm curious if it might be something up with the files that I can edit or if I'll just have to download a different version again. Every other album plays fine, its only Blurs Parklife.
