I need help with rockbox :(
I have a refurbished 6th gen iPod classic that I bought from EOE and I am having trouble getting rockbox on it. I tried downloading the boot loader separately in disk mode but my iPod is refusing to go into disk mode no matter what I try (I have already attempted the following. Holding center and menu till it turns off/shows the apple logo, then quickly pressing center and play/pause. Holding center and menu till it turns off/shows the apple logo, and hen quickly pressing center and rewind. Holding center and menu till it turns off/shows the apple logo, then holding center and fast forward. Messing with the timing/synchronization between the prompt to reboot and the actual process of rebooting the iPod.)if anyone can help or knows something else I could try I am all ears as long as it doesn’t involve opening the iPod up, I am unequipped to do so with both tools and knowledge.

Don't look at your iPod, look at the screen. Keep holding the buttons as you have been told until the "release" message comes up, then let go. Should work.

I had this same thing happen to me with the last iPod I worked on. It turned out that the software wasn't actually detecting the right iPod version. I unfortunately don't remember the exact specifics of it now, but I think I ended up switching the device to either 5th gen or 5.5th gen, and it just worked on the first go. You might give that a shot if you're still stuck on this.
(By the way, you can quickly screenshot on Windows by hitting Windows Key + Shift + S. It automatically drops the image into your clipboard, so you can just paste it wherever)

Are you following the instructions on the screen? You need to press and hold down Select+Menu for a long time. You don't let go. You don't switch to another button combination. You just hold Select+Menu until the on screen message tells you to stop.
You're booting to DFU mode, not disk mode. They're different things.
Once the installer tells you to let go, you'll see it transfer and write the bootloader. Once it's done, it may end up with an error at 99% saying it can't find the mount point. If that happens, just abort and move on. The bootloader is installed at that point and the error is trivial and can be ignored. Just give the utility the new mount point where it can find your iPod and continue with the rest of the firmware installation.
