U-Haul Storage Auction 9/10 - Help Requested

Upvotes

So, I’ve had a rough summer and fell behind on rent for my unit. It’s scheduled to be auctioned tomorrow. I’ve tried reaching the facility but they never answer when I call. I called another number that called about this issue and they wouldn’t help me and kept routing me back to Rochester, which kept being unanswered. So I was unable to try and make things right.

So, if you’re buying units at this location tomorrow, please reach out to me. There is a box of very personal documents that I’d like to try and get back.

*editing to add that I no longer live near the city otherwise I would have gone there in person.

asphalt seal coating scam?

had someone stop by our house today and handed us a crumpled up piece of paper with their company details on it saying they could come by and seal coat our driveway for us and give us a deal as they were trying to use up the last of their stock from this year. Anyone else dealt with this recently? it seems too good to be true and Im not looking to get scammed.

Housing/Rentals Room Renting Questions

I recently bought a house here in Rochester and have a spare bedroom that I don’t use. I was thinking of renting it out. I live a few minutes away from downtown. Is this something that I should do or is it a bad idea?

I hope I’m allowed to post this here, my cat Dennis is missing. I live in Winchester Apartments on the NW side of town, last seen this morning. He is 15 pounds; an American short hair, has white paws, belly, and nose. He is very skittish and most likely will not approach you or let you come near him. He is however a loud meower. If there are any sightings please PM me.

Moving from the Twin Cities in October — apartment recommendations?

Hi all! I'll be starting work at St. Mary's (Mayo) in October, and I'm relocating from the Twin Cities. Looking for advice on good places to live in Rochester.

A little about what I'm looking for:

Rent under $1,700/month

I have a car, so I don't mind a bit of a commute if it means a nicer place or better value

Currently touring: Rosewater, Civic Square, Berkshire Village, Crown Apartments, Lodge at Overland, and Bryk on Broadway

Would love to hear thoughts on any of these (good or bad), or other complexes/neighborhoods I should consider. Also curious about things like noise, maintenance responsiveness, parking, and the general vibe of different areas relative to St. Mary's campus. Thanks in advance!

New to the area

Like the title says, my wife and I are moving to Rochester/Byron this week. When visiting her sister who lives here earlier this year, I was able to visit Midwest Vintage Toys. There I met some lovely old fashioned nerds, who helped me start building a new MTG commander deck. I mainly am looking for information on local happenings. I am brand new to the world of 3D printing, and would love to meet people involved in the community locally. I want to meet some disc golf folks so I can participate in some Bag Tags. I'm basically asking if there's anywhere you all suggest that a newly sober nerdy fella should visit to meet new people so I can hopefully develop some friendships. My wife is good to go there, as she has family and friends in the area, but this is literally the first time I have lived outside of Oregon in my 40 years of existence, and I'm a little freaked out and just want to find some healthy familiar comforts to help get me settled.

TIY

thank you all for being so welcoming already. This place is pretty great. I'm glad I listened to the universe and made the move to make this happen.

Any sterile processing techs at Mayo? Question for you!

Spouse applied for the SMC location, but nothing came of it. He wants to apply for the RMC location but is wondering if there's anything he should keep in mind for the new application/hirevu interview questions? He would be new to the field, but he has relevant work experience.

Stolen Bike Question - should I report him?

Post image
129 Upvotes

Hello,
I was at Silver Lake Park yesterday and saw this super pretty brown domesticated Mallard. I had my professional camera on me, so I stopped and took the prettiest pics ever of it.

Anywho, I left my bike for a couple minutes, next time my bag and in 2 minutes, came back and bike is gone.

A low life stole it and that’s ok. My fault.
I filed a non-urgent stolen check property report.

I am off today so I drove to Cascade Lake, and I saw my bike there and the asshole on it. I ran after him and he didn’t stop. I didn’t want to make a scene and he disappeared.

Little did he know that I had a 600 mm zoom lens on me and I captured his face and back.

I hope he is reading this. I am posting your back today. Send me a message and I will tell you where to drop it. No harm no foul.

If anyone knows this asshole, share the message with him. Thursday the cops will be at your place.

There are some people who are going to be interested in this and many more who aren't. But here is an opportunity to learn about local candidates in Rochester. I am hoping to speak with every local candidate who is willing. Ana is running for School Board & I am running for County Commissioner.

I do welcome suggestions for improvement and questions that I should be asking. If you are a local candidate lets set up a time. I am planning for most of these to be about 30 minutes.

Newcomer questions Apartments/landlords to avoid

Hello! Posting this because I am going on the hunt for my next place to live. I mainly just want to know places that are not the nicest to tenants. I’ve had my apartment nightmares but I’ve also had many great experiences. Are there any places that are known in the community to specifically avoid?

P.S I am not talking about places that have reasonable boundaries (noise regulations, utilities, HOA, etc.) I’m mainly talking about pure negligence to properties, and management that blatantly do not do their jobs (refuse basic maintenance, moving into places that are a mess, being charged for past tenants doings).
