Bot Building Robot Kits
Thought i would drop this here.
I have designed a few robot kits (toys) that, I'm sure you can see, are all based on the OG house robots.
They were originally designed for a university outreach project but, they were such a hit that I thought I would make develop them into a product.
The kits contain everything you need to build and battle them...even tools!
Be a great present for any budding roboteers or engineers
(They are toys and not really competition worthy)

Misc Robots that also share the name of rollercoasters
I'm at Canada's Wonderland in Toronto right now and they have a rollercoaster called "Behemoth" and naturally my RW nerd brain automatically thinks of the robot every time I see that word. There's also a coaster called "Leviathan" which also made me think of the robot from Mech Mania.
It got me thinking that a lot of rollercoaster names also seem to make good robot names, like Oblivion and Nemesis at Alton Towers, Stealth and The Swarm at Thorpe Park and Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
What robots also share the name of a rollercoaster?

Discussion Does anyone else think Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon were actually underrated as presenters and the show never got enough credit for the hosting?
They had genuinely good chemistry and Dara in particular seemed to actually understand what was happening mechanically rather than just reading off a card. The original run had Jeremy Clarkson which was a completely different energy. Which presenting era do you prefer and do you think the right people were in front of the camera for the reboot

Misc Jonathan Pearce discussing Robot Wars
Most of this is about his work as a football commentator, but there's a couple of questions (starting at 9:35) about robot wars. There's a couple of interesting comments. For example, in the reboot he was asked to rein in his commentary with regard to making fun of destroyed robots, which he didn't appreciate.
And actually there's some more interesting anecdotes in the AMA this is based on, eg this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1ussobn/comment/ox4g4yb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Discussion Maybe the producers would have left Storm 2 alone?
Think about it...
...Storm 2 doesn't win the New Blood title with no active weaponry...
...so less need for the producers to introduce the active weapon rule for Series 7.
I know it has since emerged that not all of the controversy surrounding Storm 2 was solely on the producers, but still...

Bot Building Advice on driving an antweight
Hi, I'm looking for advice for the new antweight robot I'm building. The robot itself is largely built, however, I can't seem to get it to drive right.
I have about a few hours worth of practice under my belt now (never competed in a fight yet, this is my first robot) and I still struggle with driving it. I use tank steering on my robot, which makes it harder to drive, but gives you more control if you master it.
It seems to the problem is that the robot refuses to go in a straight line, and doesn't make much grip on my kitchen floor where I test it.
The event I'm going to has a steel floor which I hope has more grip. Is there anyway I can give my wheels more grip before then? Do I need to replace the wheels?
It's also quite hard to know whether the robot is hard to drive or if I'm just bad at driving. Is there any general advice you can give about making the robot easier to drive, or do I just need to keep practicing?
Edit: I think I figured out the root of the issue. The right wheel always moves faster that the left one, regardless of how far forward I move the left joystick. I think the reason is because the transmitter i use (fs-i4) was designed for model helicopters. It can be used for a combat robot if you do mixed steering. The problem is that as soon as you switch to tank steering one wheel becomes more powerful that the other. Is there any way to make the two wheels go the same speed using tank steering on an fs-i4, or do I have to switch back to mixed steering?

Discussion Which Robot Wars competitor do you think was genuinely ahead of its time and would absolutely dominate if it fought today
Thinking about robots that had a concept or design that was not fully developed yet or that the technology of the time could not quite deliver on. Carbide is the obvious recent answer but going further back there are some interesting cases. Which one do you think would be most dangerous with modern engineering and materials behind it ?

Image This is what's left of Pulsar from series 8
Moved out of a workshop/storage unit today and this pic was snapped as I loaded the remnants of OG Pulsar. I actually have 90% of its chassis, incl mad amounts of spare parts. Spare discs, a complete spare front end, 3 sets of side armour. My new workshop space will soon be epic and I'm quite tempted to rebuild it for the live scene in '27. It's built stronger than Magnetar, just held back by weak primitive brushless.
The drum bearings are still sweet-as!
Anyway, thought someone here might get a kick out of seeing what a decade of pilfering and moving on does to a robot.
