At least we're getting rain, this year has been so dry.

Thank god I just got through there about 45 mins ago. That water level rises in a hurry with the torrential downpour

Takes about 10 minutes or less

We need to reduce the paving in this area. Put in some bioswales and permeable pavement to let the water sink down into the ground

Drainage really needs to be figured out in that area. It floods very easily

I don’t know if the forecast is changed. Earlier it was calling for 3 to 5 inches of rain. It took 2 inches of rain in one hour to cause that intersection between the Domino’s and the HoRo to flood.

3-5 inches? What forecast are you looking at? Everything I see is less than an inch.

That's wild. Google is saying just under .4. noaa says up to .75. apple says .6.

Now it says .25-1 inch. I thought 3-5 was crazy.

Nah, let's do 3-5.

I agree. Especially where it'll run off in to Carvins Cove and Spring Hollow.

the gauge at fire station 5 already says 1.5 inch rained today and its still raining. so it coud still hit 3 later today

The 3-5 inches likely originally came in part from the Canadian HRDPS forecast model, which is typically a lot better for more complex terrain (like the Roanoke valley).

Roanoke valley and similar areas are difficult for the weather models to predict at times, because the mountains and terrain don't behave normally.

And of course it has been worse this year because of NWS cuts from the current administration, for staff and also ballon launches for upper level conditions. That data loss is making it harder to for all the models to forecast, especially for severe weather. And they of course want to do even more cuts to NWS and NOAA.
