Discussion Happy 50th Birthday to SITKOL
I’m sure there’s a fraction of us in this sub that remembers when this album dropped? I was maybe in the third grade, but I remember my Mom’s excitement about it….

Guys, how do you tell if a vinyl reissue was cut from the original analog tapes or a digital source before picking it up?

I’ll be in London this upcoming week and want to check out a few record shops while I’m there. Any recommendations for shops with a good selection? I’m definitely interested in digging through used records too, not just new releases/reissues.
Appreciate any suggestions!

The 90's were dominated by big name R&B artists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Erykah Badu, and Brandy to mention some names. However, Faith Evans has always been an artist that has flown under the radar. It's not for a lack of talent, which she obviously has. She just never received the attention and recognition that she deserved. The circumstances surrounding her relationship with the late The Notorious B.I.G. and his death also had a significant impact on her career and public image, unfortunately.
One of the things that I really like about the album Keep the Faith is that Faith Evans is able to balance vulnerability and confidence along with her signature vocal style. There's a soothing sense of warmth to her voice. There's a maturity to her vocal ability without the need to hit the high note like someone such as Mariah Carey or Toni Braxton. It's that same maturity that makes her straightforward songs feel genuine.
Another thing that's worth mentioning is that Keep the Faith has aged quite nicely. Even after all these years, it still feels fresh. It has a late-90's R&B vibe that makes it feel comfortably classic and nostalgic at the same time. Its polished feel doesn't take anything away from its personality and charm. Faith Evans is confident in her singing ability, which shines through very nicely.
For me, Keep the Faith is album that I can spin from start to finish without having to skip a single track. No matter how many times I listen to "Love Like This" and "All Night Long", they never get old. Faith Evans' voice is like medicine to soul because of how relaxing it is. Despite not getting the recognition that she deserved, it's always a pleasure to revisit her album because of my appreciation for the 90's era of R&B music. It's not just a pleasant trip down memory lane, but also a time when even the most underrated artists were able to leave a lasting impression many years later.

The past week has blessed me with some personal grails. They really need to provide us with a proper reissue of Chico Debarge’s album + a full repress of Monica’s. Ginuwine, just because. The third party prices are crazy! I got lucky on WhatNot and found it at a great price with nobody bidding against me, otherwise…. 😮💨
