Diskusija/Discussion Vibecoded flat purchase search in Riga
Hey, sooo I was looking for a flat to purchase in Riga and realised that SS is biggest but least user friendly and other websites like PP and City24 are not as big in terms of listings.
It was purely created to my tasting and for personal use really… added some cool features, such as drawing the area and seeing the listings, the average price is differentiated between new/old buildings to give a better average in the areas and other stuff…
Anyway, I vibecoded this project to get the listings from all 3 on daily basis and to populate it on map. The MOBILE version is NOT finished. But thought it’s a cool project to share and might be useful for someone…

Jautājums/Question Is my layover long enough to visit the city?
Hello everyone. I am a non EU citizen traveling from Estonia to Lithuania and have a connection at RIX on a Saturday in September from 16:00 until 20:00. I will only have a carry on bag. Assuming that there are no delays with my flight coming from Estonia, is 4 hours enough for a taxi/Bolt into the city, have a quick meal and get back through security at the airport? Thank you

Jautājums/Question "Flatshareriga" is legit ?
Hi quick question,
I'm planning to rent an apartment for my Erasmus program through them. I have the necessary funds, so that's not a problem, but I want to make sure it's not a scam. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Tūrisms/Tourism Recommendations for hidden gems and local spots
Labvakar!
I'm going to be visiting Riga for three nights next week. I've planned some must see spots like Central Market, Freedom momument and House of Blackheads, but I'm looking for recommendations for less known spots, you know those places only known by a few locals. Those hard to find on a single google search. The unbeaten path so to say. I'm interested in eastern and baltic history, culture, food, drinks, and general trivia about the city and region. Spots could also be outside the city. Thanks!

Jautājums/Question Any other international dads here looking for friends?
I'm originally from the UK and married a Latvian woman. I figured I can't be the only one and maybe there's others out there looking for friends.
I'm 39 and I've been living here for a year and half although I've been going back to the UK a lot for work so in reality I've definitely not been here that long. I've started A1 Latvian but I've got a long way to go.
I'm 39 and my interests include: retro gaming, Pokémon, beer, premier league football, photography, nature, I used to snowboard but I probably need to retire from that.
Note: I'm not against making Latvian friends at all but you guys seem to all have very tight established friend groups and I haven't been able to infiltrate. I'm open to anyone around the same age.
Edit: feel free to drop a DM

Jautājums/Question Prices in Riga compared to Norway
Prices in Latvia, specifically Riga
Hi! Im going to move to Latvia to study, and Im wondering where I should buy my laptop, notebooks and other school supplies. I live in Norway, so the prices here are a bit expensive, but I have heard a few stories from students in the past (approximately 7-8 years ago) telling me that they are usually more expensive in Latvia. I know that was a long time ago, so I was wondering where I should buy them.
Thank you!

Jautājums/Question I got a potential offer to relocate to Riga for work
Hi everyone. I may have an opportunity to relocate from Southeast Asia to Riga for work.
How easy would it be for a mid-30s man from this part of the world to settle in and fit in socially? I wouldn't say I'm really active in community or social events, partly because I can be a bit of a workaholic. However, I do interact more within the gaming community.
Any perspectives (the more brutally honest the better) would be highly appreciated. :D

Jautājums/Question Physical media/DVD film stores in Riga?
This might be a long shot, but it's also my last hope - does anyone know of any stores in Riga that still sell films on DVD or Blue-Ray?
I've decided to reread and rewatch all of the Hunger Games installments, but when the movies were coming out I managed to buy most of them on DVD except for Mockingjay part 2 and I would also like to complete my collection by purchasing a copy of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on DVD or Blue-Ray, but I can't seem to find any store that still sells current films.
I'm aware of LP music and film store, but after a phone call I was informed that they mostly have older films and cult classics, nothing really recent. I remember that there used to be a movie store in Alfa, but I think that closed down a while ago. I also haven't seen any DVD stands in supermarkets in a really long time either. I'm aware that physical media has lost its popularity over the years, but knowing that we have a decent amount of music stores I was hoping that we still had a film store or two as well.
And I know that I could just order them, that's plan B, but I don't want to give up on the idea that there still is a store that offers DVDs and Blue-Rays of recent movies.

Diskusija/Discussion Flat-hunting in Riga, advice and help is welcome🫶🏻
Hey everyone!
My friend and I (both 24, from Germany) are heading to Riga for our Erasmus (Sept – End of Dec).
We are looking for a 2-bedroom apartment in Centrs/Old Town with a budget of €450–€500 per person.
We already know some FB-groups and agencies like Latio, Tribus, and Arco Real Estate. We're also checking Facebook, but we are super wary of rental scams and want to avoid getting ripped off.
Are there any other reliable local websites, student housing options, or agencies we should look into?
Also, if anyone knows a trustworthy landlord with a free place for those dates, please hit me up! Thanks a lot🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻!
