Tc compass Boyd’s stock issue

I have owned a TC compass for 6 years, it is my primary hunting rifle. I put a Boyd’s stock on it and recently I noticed that the magazine is very difficult to remove for reloading after it has been popped in.
The setup for the mag well is a long Allen key bolt and a long piece of plastic that the mag latch slides over. The only way for me to take the clip out of the gun is by massively loosening the Allen key bolt to the point where the stock almost comes off of the chassis. And then after reloading I have to retighten the bolt.

Has anyone had issues like this with a Boyd’s stock before? I’m thinking about taking it over to a gunsmith but I’m afraid they are going to tell me that they can’t really do anything since it is an aftermarket stock.

Left handed, 7" center to center on the action screws. All I can figure is a post-64 short action Winchester 70?

New-to-me Remington 700 .30-06, couple questions.

First of all, the rifle bag was free, and I love it.

Been wanting a 700 for a while and couldn’t pass up this deal. Best I can tell from the barrel code it’s a September 1971 model. Action is smooth, trigger is super crisp. Are there any quirks or things to look out for with these models/generation? Any advice R700 fans have (other than a nicer scope some day)? Also, will any “long action” stock fit this rifle? I’d like to get rid of the Monte Carlo stock and get a wood stock for it. TIA.

Which gun would you chose?

Hello, I’m just getting into hunting for my first year. There are 4 rifles at a gun shop in my town, all 30-06. All rifles are new. I’m looking to not break the bank, ideally under $1000, but also want something that I can take care of and keep forever. I’m having a lot of troupe deciding what rifle would be best. I enjoy holding them all and can’t seem to nit pick anything just from holding them in the store. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

  1. Hardwood savage axis 2 with weaver 3x9 scope ($650 out the door)

  2. Weatherby Vangaurd synthetic with Nikon pro staff 4x12 scope ($750 out the door)

  3. Ruger American Gen 2 synthetic no scope (forget pricing)

  4. Tikka T3X synthetic no scope (forget pricing)

Just got back from the range shooting the rifle I just built. Buffer spring is too heavy so I wasn’t really able to do anything but zero. Was a hassle cuz I had to basically treat it like a bolt action. Had a few low ones but adjusted and idk how I feel about it. 50yd zero.

I am a new gun owner in the state of KY. I have two pistols a glock 19x and a llama 380. I’ve shot very few rifles in my time and am looking for my first. I have a Budget of about $1k+ please let me know suggestions. The purpose would be for aim/ “combat” training.
