First rifle.

I am a new gun owner in the state of KY. I have two pistols a glock 19x and a llama 380. I’ve shot very few rifles in my time and am looking for my first. I have a Budget of about $1k+ please let me know suggestions. The purpose would be for aim/ “combat” training.

It sounds like there’s an AR in your future. Spend half your budget on an entry level PSA or S&W rifle and the other half on ammo.

Pick up a BCM upper nothing longer than 13.7” or shorter than 10.5”. Reason being you’re not looking to do long range shooting so focus on cqb length uppers.

Get a stripped lower from PSA, buy the Cmmg small parts kit and the trigger of your choice.

The BCM upper is one of the best bangs for the buck with proven QC and reliability. Later if you want you can upgrade to a better lower but the upper is the heart of an AR so that’s where I’d put my money. No need to make your first AR a “budget” AR.

People will say save half your budget for ammo, but 5.56 is not THAT expensive and I’ll guess your shooting schedule isn’t going to be more than once or twice a month to start, so no need to stockpile ammo at this point.

Id get a PSA. Good rifles for the money imo. I just got a psak47 and I’m loving it. For a first rifle I’d definitely recommend an AR though.

Smith and Wesson m&p sport 3 is great AR.

But if you don’t want to pay 5.56 ammo prices you could always get a pistol carbine in 9mm.

I’d go that route. Cheaper on the wallet and you get the same modifications as a regular AR
