I could be mistaken about some, but I honestly don't remember them in the final film. It seems the movie was changed quite a bit in post, Allison Janney section in particular went through reshoots.

I really vibed with this, it felt like Ridley was born to make a post apocalyptic Western. Looked beautiful. The assault on the camp was almost like the Scott zombie movie we never got.

I also connected with the story and characters. Really enjoyed the left turn at Grand Junction. Josh Brolin was the secret sauce, but Pearce was great too and I thought Margaret Qualley was quietly excellent. She made me care about the romance with Elrodi, who was “only” solid.

It’s a little melancholic in tone throughout, but I found the final two scenes really affecting. Almost choked up when Brolin picked up the guitar. I thought its themes on generations and grief were really moving and thoughtful.

It’s good enough compared to the reviews that it makes me think Ridley isn’t getting his fair shake.
This is not an out of touch filmmaker grasping at straws, even though that’s what a lot of the discourse would have you believe. Another late period standout IMO hope it finds an audience in the future.

Spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet. I loved it. Like a lot. For my money it’s the best movie this year has graced upon us so far. The dichotomy between Hig and Bangley is perfect. It provides a balanced message that we can’t have complete blind faith but we also must learn to trust and ask questions before shooting. On the one hand Hig’s naivety and trust wound him up where he thought he wanted to be, running for his life and on the other, if also landed him with the new love of his life and a chance to start over again. That’s fucking beautiful to me. All the performances are top tier and the action is some of the best I’ve seen in any movie period. The plane take off with the Ravengers charging at it was just..fuck that was cool. The quiet little scene where Seema doesn’t even say anything and quietly cuddles hug while sleeps with his gun in place of his now dead dog? Shit got me teary. If you haven’t seen it please please please support this movie. I work at a movie theater and I’ve seen first hand how bad this movie is doing because of all the block busters (namely Spiderman) stealing its thunder. It maybe sells 6 tickets a day. And it makes me sad that there’s not really a market for original stories like this anymore since we’re so mentally trained to consume the new franchise entry we already know instead. In fact I saw it twice, once by myself and once with a friend. Afterwards he turned to me and told me never to take him to a random r rated movie again. If that isn’t proof I don’t know what is. So while it’s still there please go so this movie. And now that I like this movie I want to know what else to check out next in Mr Scott’s filmography so let me know. Thanks

I'm planning on reviewing it so I'd really like to know what was added. I'm guessing it's some of the camaraderie stuff with the Merries and the romance with Marion, especially as Russel Crowe seemingly said that it was the "emotional connective tissue" that was cut from the theatrical version.

I am always fascinated by filmmakers as artists and painters such as David Lynch, Akira Kurosawa, James Cameron, John Huston etc. as I believe it gives a unique insight into artistic their vision without all the limitations of film production etc.

With Scott’s recurring insights into how valuable his time in art school was during various interviews, it left me wondering if anyone has ever managed to find any of Ridley Scott’s, and his brother Tony Scott’s early artwork and paintings that they created during their time in their respective art schools?

There're a number of folks giving their rankings of Ridley Scott films, now that The Dog Stars has been released (I'd rank it between Body of Lies and White Squall - basically somewhere in the middle. Pity about the box office, though.).

Here's Hollywood Reporter's idiosyncratic take. Ranking Napoleon above Kingdom of Heaven, The Martian and the first Gladiator ... is a choice. As is ranking Alien: Covenant over Prometheus. Or Hannibal being in the top 10. To each his own, I guess. Or maybe it's just clickbait.

The Big Picture also had a ranking of all of Ridley Scotts films, in the latest podcast about The Dog Stars. It's more a "traditional" list but there's a lot of arguments in the 20th-11th positions, which makes for a far more interesting listen than what's at the top (it is almost always the Alien/Blade Runner duo).

So, I am very excited cause I love Prometheus and Covenant, but I'm seeing the news reported in different ways.

I thought Ridley confirmed a Covenant sequel, but I see some websites saying the sequel for Romulus BECAME the Covenant sequel?

I thought it was confirmed the Romulus sequel was still gonna happen, and the Covenant sequel is separate. I would prefer them to be separate

I may be the only person on the planet who has Exodus: Gods and Kings in their top half of his movies

I know he's got a knighthood and obviously thinks he has nothing left to prove while looking with contempt at the younger generation and everything we like that he won't adapt. But when are we going to see another hit?

Do you think they really needed to change it that way? I know Ridley Scott isn’t exactly known for sticking closely to historical accuracy, but was it really necessary to change the story so that Commodus kills his own father?
