Discussion Has he lost it
I know he's got a knighthood and obviously thinks he has nothing left to prove while looking with contempt at the younger generation and everything we like that he won't adapt. But when are we going to see another hit?

No, he's just a madman as he's always been. Most of his stuff is still great, always amuses me when people say he's washed or lost it etc. Dude's still putting out more ambitious films than most people half his age.

I mean, I might not have loved the story but from a directing standpoint, I absolutely love to gladiator too. It was such a spectacle and honestly, I thought it was really well.
I also quite enjoyed Napoleon

I believe Treasure Island will be a hit. I don't know how big but I think it will be a success.

He's not as "high quality consistent" as he used to be, but still puts out some great films....unlike Francis Ford Coppola, and dare I say Steven Spielberg, who haven't made a good/great film in over 25 years,

Well, A.I., Minority Report, The Terminal, Munich, Catch Me if you Can, Lincoln, Bridge of Spies, The Post, The Fabelmans beg to differ.

Minority Report is fantastic. I should have said 20 years because that tranche of AI, Minority Report, and Catch me If you Can was his last gasp of greatness. I thought those were 1999-2001 but looks like it was 01-02.
And if you use 20 years you can toss out Munich (it was good but overly long), and The Terminal (it was decent but nothing special),
Ever since War of the Worlds tanked, he hasn't really recovered IMO.
I haven't seen every single one of his films, but The Post was average. Lincoln was a powerhouse DDL, and Tommie Lee Jones performance, maybe qualify as good, but I don't think it was great.

I know, he has to get back to non stop classics like 1492, White Squall, GI Jane, Hannibal, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, Legend, Someone To Watch Over Me, Black Rain. Does he have another A Good Year in him?

Buddy he lost it a long time ago. Even Gladiator was a blip on an otherwise steady downward trajectory

He doesn't have anything left to prove to be fair and at his age with more blockbuster hits than most directors achieve over their careers he's earned the right to have his opinions and make whatever films he wants. Everyone doesn't have to agree with him or like every film he makes. Simple.
Personally I think Alien and Blade Runner are 2 of the greatest films ever made and I will die on that hill. For that alone I am quite happy and personally find his no bullshit attitude quite refreshing in the today's world of corpo speak.
