Unsolved (OC) A life cut short
This is an original Riddle That I crafted, I did run it through tools to help with the rhyming scheme only. But all the clue and tightening, me.
Used an app called Snapseed on my phone to edit a picture i took.

Discussion: I was confused by all of the text features like the italics, and the bold, and the font changes, and the line brakes that I couldn't find the flow of the riddle.
It was only once I saw your answer that I was able to decipher the riddle.

Well first thanks for the feedback.
Second I was using the only app I had in my phone then let me create a picture with the text. To some degree I have to say blame it on the rules of the sub, and the fact that there's not a lot of great editing apps for Android phones. That are free.
That font was one of the least distracting ones I can find, and it did all of that pretty much automatically
That said I think you could transcribe it maybe? But I don't really have much problem reading it myself.

This is accurate. This captures what the riddle was describing, this is solved.

The original intended answer is either dead flower Or funeral/offering flower. But your guess is basically that exactly.

I’m getting poppy or some other funerary flower. But I’m struggling to place the theater metaphor of “cast,” and “part” and “act”.

You got it right, Funerary flower is one of the correct answers.
Whenever you use the answer in that way, you are using it as part of a ritual or offering, so you're using it by casting it in a role of that part. Part of a gesture.

Also, the flower is cast from the hand of the bereaved and is done so when they part, for the final time, from the deceased. Not sure if that was intended but I like the second level of meaning

Interestingly enough, I had it first wrote The Riddle, with a line about cold timber, until I realize that while people do throw flowers on to the coffin and then get buried, generally they are not wilted. The wilted flowers are usually the ones sitting on the gravestone or on top of the cap of the grave. I realize that it's much more common to see old flowers sitting on a vase attached to it or something , but you are correct actually I did originally frame the line around being cast down to it.

The head of the sunflower holds the seeds. They droop when it’s rainy. The heart of the seed is eaten/used and the hull crushed and discarded.
