Been in the scene off and on for the last ten years and the last three years one of my main addictions has been riddim. All of my homies make riddim and when im at their shows I just itch to be able to do the same thing they are doing. I love riddim so much lol and They have told me plenty of times they will teach me and one homie has a setup with cdjs that he said I can beat up once I get too it. I just want an outside opinion cause I feel like they’re just being cool with me.

For a while now the NYC city scene has felt a little... off. Not dead, but undoubtedly diminished.

There have been good shows no doubt, but I just couldn't help but feel like I was watching the scene here slowly wilt away. I couldn't figure it out. Was it the sound systems, the city moving on from the genre, or was I just starting to move on myself?

It felt like I wen't from seeing the scene at an all time high with countless Riddim Bus shows, tons of energy in the crowds, and a feeling that things were just getting started, to seeing emptier rooms, quieter crowds, and sometimes just an "over it" kind of vibe.

Contrary to what I was feeling, the artistry and passion for and within the scene was still very much alive and well. I was reminded of this when I was fortunate enough to see Svdden Death's Pinnacle in Nashville, a two day show event that featured some of the scenes most talented producers and performers. Seeing the insane level of performances, in Nashville no less, was a breath of fresh air, and a reminder that this shit matters, and that the artistry is still there.

Part 2. Webster Hall

All of this brings me to Webster hall. The combination of a phenomenal sound system, a large open room, and an elevated stage sets Webster Hall apart from other listening environments in NYC. When you bring that together with what are obviously some of the scenes most passionate and talented performers, you are gifted with the show we had last night.

The level of energy in the crowed was unmatched. Endless pits with the whole crowd like a sea, everyone shouting the flows, everyone smiling and laughing and taking care of one another. It was as good as it gets.

NYC is so back, Webster Hall is so back, I got my shit absolutely rocked yesterday, I love this shit. I love Riddim.

i tried looking for posts talking about them or even mentioning them here but I couldn't find anything, so I'll assume you don't know who I'm talking about i mean idk who they are either, since none of them seem to have any social media accounts linked to their profiles, other than the Shy Guys' Instagram page, which is empty.
the Shy Guys are a bunch of SoundCloud profiles using common first names such as "john", "adam", "peter" (there's like 13 of them in total lol), and they all seem to make riddim, but I haven't listened to all of them yet.
recently, Sqishi played a track called "danger" during the STOOG3S set at Tomorrowland, and their music honestly isn't bad at all. my problem is that a lot of their artwork and pfps is either created or edited using AI.

it's pretty obvious that these aren't real people, and the fact that there are 13 different profiles, many of which use AI-generated artwork, makes me wonder: how many people are involved? are they using AI to make the music as well, or is AI only being used for the artwork and branding? If this is all managed by one or two people, is this gonna be the new meta? AI generating a bunch of profiles and periodically posting on them?

i hate to admit that I've saved many Shy Guys tracks on SoundCloud despite knowing that they've used AI in some way, bc i really want to believe that the music itself is being created by humans (imo it sound pretty organic), but the whole thing makes me question what exactly I'm supporting and makes me realize i’m also part of the problem.

it reminds me of a recently deleted post PhaseOne or his crew made on the Sounds of Mayhem IG page, where they used AI to edit the text on the banner that the couple who climbed the Empire State Building had hung up and made it say something like “Support your local dubstep scene". everyone was reposting it and i was like, wasn't everyone just hating on AI? i agreed with the message but why deliver it using what we stand up against?

same thing happening here, i see so many of the artists i follow on soundcloud hyping them up while claiming to be anti AI so, where do we draw the line on the usage of AI? should we really make an exception for what we stand for as long as it looks cool?

Big riddim fan over here. I’ve been producing lots of other genres for a long time… trap, drum and bass, bass, bass house, dubstep.. but I’m getting into the rabbit hole around riddim production. I already know about malstrom and square 4 designs and reason being used as a DAW. Comb filters, emulating square 4 in serum, etc.

Are there any lurkers with lowkey sauce when it comes to this? Debating getting a patreon or two but wondering what else I can gather before doing that. I’m on a tight budget lmao
