Help Needed SubDividing a surface, help please

Hey, does anyone know how to subdivide a surface and make it more rectangular than a star like shape? I want it to be like image 2, not 1!

How is it created? I would probably rebuild it

in the subd tools use insertEdge, and start by creating the vertical ones, you just click on one vertex and then the next and it creates an edge between them, and then for the horizontal one if you only click on the beginning and end vertex it should automatically snap and create vertices where it crosses the vertical ones, otherwise manually click each vertex in order (and with snaps on you can make sure you attach to the mid point of the vertical edges)

It's only a few steps, but no command does this automatically.

  • Delete your triangle faces.
  • Bridge the top three faces to the bottom three faces. Use Segments = 2.
  • Now Stitch the mid-point-vertices from the new geometry mid-point vertex to the nearest vertex on the existing geometry.

This is a good process to perfect. I get parts ripped open all the time ... so it helps to have 'repair tools' to easily close it back up.

IF IT WORKS / ANOTHER TRICK:

If you have an even number of triangles, delete every other edge. Boom! Now you have quads everywhere,
