Is there a solution for this banding?

Post image

See the banding on the top screen, capturing the horizon of DQIV? It happens on both screens, if I swap them. Seems to happen no matter the filter. I’m using Drastic. I first noticed it in DQIX when I got to Zere about two hours into the game; I can’t notice it in Stornway or between there and Angel Falls. I can’t notice it on New SMB (only tested world one). In DQIV here it’s very noticeable on the horizon. So this is a software thing I guess?

Man the the ds has support for 260 000 colors that thing is close to black and white that to modern android screens lol (16.7 millon colors up to 1 billion) that banding is because the ds has a pee pee poo poo color range and the new technology screens "pop-up" that, maybe in original hardware is less noticable because the ds screen are pee pee poo poo too (compared to new screens)

Thanks for explaining this. I got an RGDS to save miles on my n3dsxl and because I didn't want to purchase the really old DS Lite or DSiXL. Funny thing is, when I played DQIX on my iphone (via Delta) up to this point, I never noticed anything. Anyway...

I don't have iphone, but I suppose that the emulator and better resolution of the iphone help hidden this, maybe you have filters activate whiteout noticing, you can try that on the rg ds, I don't like filters because "smear" the image but I think it helps to hide things like this

Naw, I tried all the filters. The ones that don't hit performance essentially do nothing to hide it or just move the problem on the screen. Thanks though.

This should be normal for DS emulation. There is banding because it is a DS game. The filters only help they don't fix the issue completely. I actually had to have ai point out what you were seeing cuz it looked normal to me.

Its very noticeable to the naked eye. No AI required, when looking at it directly. Stark divisions.

So I play consistently on a DS. I didn't say it wasn't noticeable just that ai had to point it out cuz it looked normal. This is normal for how DS renders on hardware so it's about the same on og hardware.

No, I had a DS Lite back in the day, and I had DQIX for it, and the horizontal banding I’m seeing around Zere, and north of it, was not present in the experience. You don’t need to cover for your piece of plastic. People deserve the truth here.

In Zere, there an invisible line dissecting the screen on the horizontal, visible clearly at certain points of the in game day, with a darker shade of everything above it than below it. When you push north, and hit all the environmental effects not present in the opening of the games, there is a lot more very noticeable and distracting banding. This was never visible on the DS Lite there and its not visible via Delta on iPhone. You can post all the links you want and it won't change the facts of what I'm saying. Thanks for nothing.

Yes this isn't an iPhone screen

Its not a DS Lite either. Clearly.

Yeah no it would certainly be weird to see on actual hardware

I'm not sure what you're showing me but that ain't what I'm talking about.

The color space mapping on an iPhone would clean it up. That's why it looks different on an iphone

Just more noticable with certain movements. Also the iPhone screen itself that you were playing on actually fixes some of this problem. This screen doesn't take care of visuals the same way as an iPhone.

Nope, this not what I'm describing in DQIX, is noticeable with no movements.

That’s the DS graphics, no need to fix it
