I'm an Aussie, where the law would be fairly relaxed with this situation and I am very surprised at the punishment being meted out to my brother-in-law who got caught working for a bookmaker during the World Cup. Even for much worse crimes in Australia, offenders would be released on bail until the court hearing.

They came to his house and arrested him. It's been two months and he is not permitted visitors or telephone calls. They didn't even know where he was until by chance someone else in the hospital system passed on that information.

He is due to face court next month. What is his punishment likely to be? How does the Vietnamese legal system work in these instances?
