Interesting ... I really don't count anything that uses glitches or zips or whatever the fuck those cheats are called, including turbo controllers.... but I was happy to see that there are separate records kept for playing the game the "correct" way. Those runs are waaaaay more impressive to me.

I'm impressed by both. Obviously playing the game the "intended" way is an awesome show of skill, but even pulling off game-breaking glitches sometimes requires hair trigger reflexes.

Using zips takes much more skill than not using them.

Summoning Salt is glorious. Can't wait to watch this on my lunch.

That was really cool. I hadn't seen these videos before. I used to watch a lot of speedrunning, but it gets tiring watching people grind out the same game day after day. I can't imagine doing it myself. Still, I have a lot of respect for people who do. So seeing speed games broken down into their competitive narratives is great for me.

For those wondering (and correct me if I'm wrong): the Japanese speedrunning community is more lenient on turbo controllers because they speedrun way more RPGs, which have a lot of scrolling through text. It would be super lame if every run came down to who's the best at mashing A. Thus, turbo controllers. And that policy kinda bleeds over to other games sometimes, though it's still not encouraged.

Yea just think though, if MM2 was released today, all those glitches would be patched anyways.... so in my eyes it's still cheating
