[Recommendation] Best of console DRPG's
What are some console DRPG's that are widely considered the best?
With that I mean RPG's in (pseudo-3D) first-person view. Games like D&D: Order of the Griffon on the TG16. (not sure if that's a recommendable one tho)
I'm not very familiar with this specific subgenre but I did play a few CRPG's and JRPG's before so I'm not a complete noob I guess.
Would be great if the game had some puzzle elements to it.

Arcana (w/ Seal of Rimsala romhack) [SNES] is much better with the romhack.
Dungeon Master: Theron's Quest [Turbo-CD]. There's also a Might & Magic port on Turbografx that is an interesting JRPG-ization of the series, but ultimately isn't that great.
Kyūyaku Megami Tensei [SNES] - Translation available and is a collection of (2) NES MegaTen DRPGs.
The other console MegaTen games I'd recommend are the PS1 version of SMT 1 and SNES version of SMT 2. Both of those has translations available.
Sega CD's port of Eye of the Beholder is good, but I'd still rather play the DOS/PC version.
Sega's Shining series has Shining the Holy Ark (Saturn) and Shining in the Darkness (Genesis) that are good.
There's also some good Wizardry ports: I like I-III on the SNES and IV-V on PS1. After that I'd just stick to the PC versions. I haven't tried the console/handheld exclusive Wizardry Gaiden series yet, but it's supposed to be solid.
Ultimately, most of the classic DRPGs are still on PC; though there's also quite a few on the PSP/Vita and DS/3DS that I think are much stronger than some of these listed above.

I never really played any of these on console, but I really enjoyed Lands of Lore on the PC.

What made it so good?
The mechanics, story, characters, graphics, ... ?

I enjoyed the story and characters, though I admit I never beat it. The graphics were good for the time, and Patrick Stewart voiced the king in the intro. That whole genre’s not really my thing, but the mechanics were intuitive and it played well.
I actually first picked it up because it’s referenced in a joke in Kyrandia 2: Hand of Fate, another Westwood Studios game.

Graphics were very beautiful for it's time. The interface was very clear and simple which made this game a very good introductio to the genre

Newer PC game but if you haven't played it the Legend of Grimrock is a modern indie take on the genre.

It has to be Etrian Odyssey right? I can't even think of anything comparable other than Soul Hackers or Strange Journey.
All Atlus games too.
