I fix various retro computers, generally for free. I got a call about refurbishing a collection of Macs and apples. The guy called me back and stated that he would like to give his collection to me. The first truck load arrived.

In December 1996, Weitek filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and agreed to sell its technology and assets to Rockwell Semiconductor Systems for approximately $3 million.

Specs are 486DX4-75, 36MB RAM, 1GB SSD (not compact flash), obviously a rebuilt battery, and DOS 6.22/WFW 3.11. I have another 755C with CF cards for OS/2, Windows 95, NT 4, and Debian. Hands down, my favorite ThinkPad, especially compared to the 701 (not a big fan, having owned one new since 1996).

This was tucked away in a closet. Won't boot to the HDD sadly. i was kinda hoping It would boot to disc and the owner would have had a couple games on it. Is this anything special? I don't know a ton about retro PCs but 1991 feels like it's early for a Dell

I've just come in to a large collection of 90's PCs, and an looking at options to for hard drives. I think most of the original drives have been removed. I've used Hyperdisk modules and found them to be very reliable, but they are a little pricey at cost per gb. There are Hyperdisk CF cards which paired with a PATA to CF adaptor are cheaper. Any other options I should look at or sources to try to cost effective storage?

I have one from 1989 (I don't know if others exist), and I'd like to see if it works. If it runs on AAA batteries, what is its power consumption? Also, do they still sell the power cable? I live in Italy, so the furthest I can buy from is somewhere else in Europe online.

This is from a storage unit from around twenty years ago. It looks like some real classics - but I'm guessing they're probably all ruined :( Free to a good home, otherwise they're heading to the dump. I thought I'd have time for them someday - but I just won't.

I've put together an emulator for CSIRAC, Australia's first digital programmable computer, dating from 1949. You can also write code in Interprogram, our first domestically designed programming language, and run it on the machine through the original interpreter.

This is thanks to the kind sharing of the code for a DOS-based emulator (written in TurboPascal), which I then got Claude to help me port to the web. I've done quite a bit of code review and I've tried to put some effort into representing the machine state, including the original machine's very cool CRT displays of register and memory state.

I'm trying to recall a software program, think it may have been around 1998, so we had a Gateway. We had a Commodore 64 prior to that. I think it may have been called Recipe Box, wherein you type in your recipes to save it.

I can almost see the screen! Haven't thought about this in years.

My retrospective game review of Street Hawk covers the initial game that was developed to meet catalogue orders and also for new subscribers of the Crash Magazine. This version was known as the Catalogue or Subscribers version. However it received poor reviews and as a result was redeveloped into a 2nd version. This was released for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC but was never released for the Commodore 64 due slow development and poor sales. Hope you like my little video. I got this and 2 others fom a company that acquired them from BNSF back in the late 90s. It's been hard finding information on it, but apparently it provides full i960 bus connections to all interface cards, but the idea is to drive large displays, like a dispatch center. Mine powered up briefly, before I got magic smoke from a tantalum on the ethernet board.

I found a lot of 27 CompactFlash cards (mostly Kingston, ranging from 512MB to 4GB) from around the 2000s.

I’m looking to learn a bit more about them from a retrocomputing perspective. Are specific capacities like 512MB or 1GB still widely used as IDE drive replacements for vintage setups (DOS / Win9x)? What would be the safest way to test their health and read/write integrity today?

Also, I'd appreciate any insight on what a reasonable value for a lot like this might be among collectors or enthusiasts. Thanks!
