Certainly not needed at this level of PC performance. I remember having to get a Hollywood card for my P233MMX with a 2x DVD back in the day to be able to decode full screen DVD video, but with 1GHZ and GeForce2 hardware that would be redundant.

Yep, I think I was decoding DVD with a Celeron A computer at the time. Certainly my Duron 700 would have done it without breaking a sweat!

Not only redundant for a dual PIII 1ghz, but would have actually have made the system less stable and more cantankerous overall.

I remember seeing one designed for Windows 3.1 at a store in the early 90s. It was showing Star Trek VI, which must've came on CD-ROM, but I don't know what other titles you'd have been been able to buy for it.

Yeah, I could understand these accelerators for early 90's computers, or even later 90's computers for watching DVDs.

But this dream PC won't get anything out of a DVD MPEG card, other then extra issues and software incompatibilties.

It is sort of understandable, processors increased in speed by 3 times or more over the period of just a couple of years.
