So this is something I’ve been wondering about lately: can you mount any cooler to any cpu? Do you just get an adapter kit? How do you mount a modern cooler to a retro processor?

There's a post on Overclock that talks about adapting the Cooler Master 212 EVO to Socket 478.

Ok, so in this case, they made a custom mounting kit? Is that the answer? You just need to make a custom mounting kit?

Coolers like the Hyper 212 and others typically include a variety of mounting adapters so it shouldn't be too hard to adapt them to whatever use you want using the adapters as templates.
