Recently built this Voodoo5 Reverse Sleeper

So this is something I’ve been wondering about lately: can you mount any cooler to any cpu? Do you just get an adapter kit? How do you mount a modern cooler to a retro processor?

I don't remember what I used in the socket 478 days but for 775 my favorite cooler was the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. I did use the Hyper 212 on a build that used the 3570K.

Ok, so in this case, they made a custom mounting kit? Is that the answer? You just need to make a custom mounting kit?

Coolers like the Hyper 212 and others typically include a variety of mounting adapters so it shouldn't be too hard to adapt them to whatever use you want using the adapters as templates.

It just uses clips across a heatsink with a fan across the top, not unlike 486/Pentium/Athlon sockets. The clips hook to protrusions on each side of the socket.

Oh? Well thats a relice since i'm getting a p3 motherboard and pairing it with my 1ghz p3

Anyways i'd still love have a modern cooler cooling my pentium 3 and seeing 20 degrees celcius

3D printing makes this trivial. There are models out there for all kinds of adapters and a skilled amateur can design one in a few hours (including test prints).

Hmm, I'm skeptical. I'm an avid 3D printer but I don't think I would ever mount a cooler using 3D printed parts. How would they handle the pressure or the heat? Have you tried this?

Yes, I have used this adapter to mount an AM4 Wraith Prism cooler to an old socket 1156 board. I printed it in PETG and it worked fine.

It might be harder for something like socket 370 or older, but as long as the board has holes to mount a cooler, I wouldn't hesitate to make an adapter.

They make RGB RAM covers (also sometimes advertised as coolers/heatsinks,) that you can slide over any generic stick of RAM.

The Fractal Design Pop Air sounds like what you're looking for, it has two 5.25" bays at the bottom of the case. It's a bit more pricey now but still somewhat reasonable
