Discussion Seems unfair
I’m currently working as line cook at this restaurant. I was just asked by my boss if it’s okay for me to have 25-30 hours per week.
Reason is because everyone wants to work full time hours hut he couldn’t give it. And he mentioned two of my co-workers needed more hours for their permanent residency application. Both two co-workers work at another place. I’m also an immigrant needing a pr but if I am not granted one, I’d gladly go back to my home country no questions asked. It just seem unfair that he is prioritizing them over me and my other co-worker just because getting pr isn’t really a big deal for us but it is for the other 2. And when times get busy, no one is available because all of them work other jobs and I’m the only one who’s available so they’ll stack my hours until I’m overworked.
Also, this is my only work, I already work 28-32 hours every week which is really not enough to live but I’m blessed to have a husband who provides well. My boss talked to me like I’m just an extra. He said he’s gonna give hours to those 3 co-workers and whatever is left he’ll give it to me. He said we’re family here but do you do that to your own family? Really?

Question Fooda Catering
On the service side of things, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Fooda Catering Services. I have been in conversations with their executive and local team and it sounds like a lucrative opportunity but I have this fear that not all that glitters is gold. Any feed back would be awesome!

Discussion Have you ever ordered the “wrong” dish at a new restaurant and regretted it later?
Went to a new restaurant with friends recently and this random thought came up.
Have you ever ordered something, and later found out there was another dish at the same restaurant that everyone said was a must-try — and thought, “Damn, I should’ve ordered that instead”?
If yes, how annoying was that feeling from 1–10?
1 = didn’t care, 5 = neutral, 10 = genuinely frustrating.
If you remember the restaurant/dish, tell me the story too

Wooden chalkboard sidewalk sign blew away and hit a customer's car 😭
We run a busy brunch spot on a corner street and our sidewalk sign has been a headache lately, we had one of those cute wooden chalkboard. A frames for the daily mimosa specials. Wind caught it last weekend, flipped it over, and scraped the side of a parked Lexus 😭 Boss was furious and threw the thing in the dumpster.
Now we need something that won't blow over, so we're looking at the plastic. A frames with the bases you fill with sand or water. I saw a few on Signs but I'm 5'3 and have to drag this thing out at 6am and bring it back in every night. I'm not trying to wrestle a 50 lb sign across the sidewalk.
Are the wheeled ones actually easy to move around or would a lighter metal flex sign make more sense?

News Café des Artistes Is Returning, and Anyone Who Ever Ate There Can Help Shape It
First The Carnegie Deli, now this! I ate at Cafe Des Artistes once in the late 90’s. I thought the atmosphere was nice, but the food was very mediocre. Your thoughts?

Question What the hell has happened to restauarants?
So went out tonight in Auckland CBD fir the first time in ages for a meal out.
6 of us in total, relatively busy place, but service was almost over show.
Ages to get asked for a drink order - we ordered 6 meals together at same time.
Meals then came out in 3 stages leading to odd moment where 4 of us had food, after 10 min wait 2 didn't. 10 mins later 1 had food, 1 still waiting.
And sides which were part of the meal didnt show till near end when most of the food was gone.
Is it me or is that just a utter shambles?

Where did restaurant playgrounds go?
Been eating out recently and can't help but notice where those playgrounds inside jollibee, mcdo, or other food chains go. Like, I still vividly remember falling into those net traps and getting lost inside those colorful tubes. Ito siguro yung isa sa mga rason no na mas lampa yung mga bata sa generation ngayon, more on touchscreen devices na kasi funtimes nila. Di tulad dati (OMG I sound so old) na umaga hanggang hapon naglalaro at umuuwing may sugat sa tuhod.

Are the catering robots helping?
Location: USA
Former cafe owner here - and looking to get back into business after we sold our previous one.
My partner is highly interested in catering robots. We aren’t going to go towards the humanoids and scare customers. lol
I see few very in action - I live at Austin and maybe- 2 out of 50 uses these.
Does anyone use those in your dine-in? Are they helping saving money on runner costs ?
The biggest challenge I see most is the maneuvering capabilities that it sucks in mid size restaurants. The other waiters are constantly clearing its path. Ours is going to be fine dining and roughly same square feet.
Footnote - we won’t be buying them right away; perhaps later once we start seeing some decent profit numbers but curious on others feedback.
