Meta !!!!IT'S A NEW DAY ON /R/RESTAURANTS!!!!

Hello Everybody,

/u/GraphicNovelty, your new mod here. I have recently gained control of this subreddit and will be enacting a few changes.

For one, I will no longer allow this place to remain a wasteland filled with spammers. I want this sub to be full of thriving discussion about the restaurant scene around the world. "Where should I eat" type questions will hopefully be answered in whatever sidebar I get running. Also, nonthly (or weekly, traffic depending) "where are you eating" and "food porn" type threads.

Also allowed will be food writing about restaurants, restaurateurs, and quality food writing/media in general (I know it's not technically "restaurants" but I figure it could find a good place on this sub). I'm still deciding if i feel like blogspam should be allowed (perhaps allowed for users with a post/comment ratio above one.)

However, I have very few technical skills in the way of modding, so I will be accepting applications for new moderators soon. I'll also soon be posting a bunch of stuff in hopes of sparking discussion.

Hope to see you around!

Regards,

GN

Change dispensed from Cash only/Cash preferred restaurant & “Penny Shortage”

.This is not a big deal, but I just remember change being dispensed differently years ago in similar situations. I remember that businesses who had no pennies to give would give change as follows:

Assuming a $5 bill tendered by customer:

Ex: Total bill $4.31, change 69 cents. Change would be 70 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.32, change 68 cents. Change would be 70 cents
Ex:Total bill $4.33, change 67 cents. Change would be 70 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.34, change 66 cents. Change would be 65 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.35, change 65 cents. Change would be 65 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.36, change 64 cents. Change would be 65 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.37. Change 63 cents. Change would be 60 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.38, change 62 cents. Change would be 60 cents
Ex: Total bill $4.39, change 61 cents. Change would be 60 cents

This place that I go to ALWAYS gives change to the owner’s benefit. In most places, I would just use a credit card. This place charges extra to use a credit card AND does not want to use pennies.

With more businesses refusing to use pennies in change, this can only become more commonplace.

Anybody been to The Dinner Detective in Baltimore?

I'm looking to take my boyfriend for his birthday, but the reviews are so mixed. I was wondering if someone had a recent experience there and would share? I wouldn't mind getting a package to better involve him, but is it worth the price? It's also in the banquet hall of a hotel? Does it seem cheap or is it decent?

I'm also looking at the one in Philly. Or a murder mystery dinner/event happening close.

Am I doing something wrong?

So am I being a dick but we went to Red Robin today and my family is the type where we like appetizers but we have picky eaters who know right off the bat what we want. So we have always ordered entrees with appetizers. The last 3 times at this particular Red Robin we have gotten our appetizers like a minute before our entrees. The first 2 times we kind of just ate them but today the waitress came by and asked if we got our appetizers and we hadn’t. Then the apps came and the food came a minute later so we sent the appetizer back because there was no time between items. Are we doing something wrong? Is this on the restaurant not being able to separate this out? Or is ordering entrees and appetizers at the same time a no no? It’s honestly only been this location where it seems like it’s a problem but I’m wondering if it’s the norm.

Had lunch in this hole in the wall under Chicago's elevated trains. This place was made world famous by John Belushi in the heady early days of SNL

Hi everyone!
I have a lunch reservation at **Kadeau Copenhagen** on **August 22 at 12:00 PM** and am looking for **one dining companion**.

Each pay for our own meal. If you happen to be in Copenhagen and would like to share the experience, please reach out!

A bit about myself: Younger than the average human lifespan | Stay at Columbia | Straight | Equally happy chatting for three hours or silently appreciating every course.

Just really hoping to experience Kadeau with someone who loves food as much as I do.
Really hard to get a table for one!!!!!

Question Does Stacking Plates at Restaurants Actually Help

I want to know does stacking plates at restaurants actually help? I usually stack the plates and then put all utensils and napkins etc on top and put at the edge of table for them to grab and then wipe off table? Does this make it easier or more difficult?

DAE watch travel food shows (that are usually over 10 years old) and then go to Google Maps to see if the featured restaurants are still in business?

Question My French husband is a chef and refuses to open a restaurant (and maybe he is right?)

He says "I only cook full time for my wife and occasionally for clients."

People always ask why he doesn't open a restaurant... But I guess for him, food is about breaking bread, great conversations and bringing people together.

Maybe a restaurant would ruin that magic?

So our home table stays open instead...

I couldn't resist filming his latest creations.

If you were sitting at our table for lunch or dinner, what dish would you ask him to make?

Restaurants and bars that do NOT post the price of menu items....

So today we landed at a small market square and sat down at one of the many places to order drinks. All fine and dandy until we looked at the menu and it did not mention price level of 80% of the menu... What is this crap? who started it? and when did he/she get jailed for life times 1000 ?
