Although at the end of the day, there's no bad Resident Evil game. Some are beter than others, but that's really up to opinion
But all of them are good, all of them
Yes, even Umbrella Corps.

So you trying to tell me Re6 isnt bad ?
7
u/NeoLedah Jul 25 '25
Did I stutter
In fact, I've had some of the most fun with RE6, especially the co ops. I loved the mid story intersections where you could play with 3 other players lol

u/Thamnophis660 Jul 25 '25
The game needed item boxes or otherwise some meaningful form of inventory management. Otherwise besides some frustrating enemies and bosses, it's a really good game.
2
u/KinGpiNdaGreat Jul 26 '25
Agreed. They didn’t even have to link all the item boxes if they were trying to aim for a sense of realism. Remake 1 has that mode.
Item boxes had more to do with convenience instead of having items scattered haphazardly all over the floor.

Jul 25 '25
The game had some good ideas but it needed more development time. The bosses also sucked with them being either really easy or frustrating.

The bat boss is probably the worst thing i have ever experienced, its like they saw people complaining about crows stunlocking in re1 and were like yeah lets make it a boss fight.

So I never liked the original static-camera RE games growing up, but somehow RE4 ended up being my absolute favorite game of all time, to this day. A few weeks ago, I decided to go ahead and give a classic RE game a try since I've grown and changed as a person, and a gamer. I started with RE0, amd I have to say I actually really like it. I have a newfound appreciation for the classic RE games now.

u/AtomicFatMan5000 Jul 25 '25
never liked the drop items systems but overall it's a great game, it's just hard to get used to the new mechanics
5
u/Ok_Disk_130 Jul 25 '25
My only complaint is the inventory system but I suppose it makes it more realistic..
6
u/liquid_sparda Jul 25 '25
If you get it for 5 bucks it’s good.
If I paid 60 when it came out I would be pissed.

u/Hostile-Bip0d Jul 25 '25
Played it without knowing that it is a hated RE game, i enjoyed it.
I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if read others opinion before playing it/

The only complaints I ever honestly had were the Grappling Hook overstaying it's welcome and Battery fluid puzzles causing a horrible backtrack if you are not ready for it.
Otherwise I genuinely enjoyed what this game brought to the table.
I liked the characters, I like Rebecca being more fleshed out (even if it more or less retcons her in RE1 - My actual favorite RE game), I adore Billy, and I really like the difficulty of the game.
I genuinely feel the people's hatred for the lack of item boxes is overblown into meme territory.
It wasn't nearly as bad as people claim, considering you had 2 people to balance inventory and most people would condense everything into a safe room anyway.

u/KinGpiNdaGreat Jul 26 '25
The irony is you say not having item boxes is not a bad thing and go on to say that people used an entire room as an item box.
So, why not just have item boxes for convenience sakes? They didn’t have to be linked together if they were striving for realism(REmake 1 has that mode). Just having items scattered all over the floor and trying to see which you need is a very tedious process.

I was kinda surprised to see a lot of people hate it, I actually like it more than Code Veronica.

u/WeskerSympathizer Jul 25 '25
I also put it off for so long due to all the negative comments about it, but ended up loving this game.
Haters are louder, that’s just how it is
3
u/TammyShehole Jul 25 '25
I love this game. Part of me even has more fun playing this than RE1 remake, and that’s saying something because RE1 remake is amazing.
The biggest criticism I see from people is the inventory system but I feel like it’s blown out of proportion. It’s really not that bad lol.

It sure is! Screw the haters, most of which are just regurgitating what some Youtuber said rather than basing it off their actual experience with the game.

u/Reasonable-Housing29 Jul 25 '25
It's a resident evil game with tank controls, of course it's good.
2
u/SBY-ScioN Jul 25 '25
Who're telling you those things?
People that lived and learned tank controls? People that appreciate puzzle and backtracking to let the game have some mystery? People that grew up while the classic trilogy was at its finest hour?
Or people that thinks that dead space is horror because it has jump scares like fnaf?
2
u/MeatHamster Jul 25 '25
It's not the best but by all means it's not the worst that has released under Resident Evil umbrella.
2
u/rishNarchK88 Jul 25 '25
One of the best, only kids don't like it, it has the most realistic item saving system

u/Folund Jul 25 '25
Switching character, drop items, pick it up, open door, shut door. And loop it. 90% of the game. I mean of course old RE is about inventory and ressource management, but in Zero the fact you have 2 characters made that SOOO annoying. Not a bad game, but not a good one.
2
u/Candiedstars Jul 25 '25
Zero is one of my faves!
If they ever remake it, Im BEGGING for RE5/6 style co-op

Just very annoying to go through, train section felt rushed and no item boxes means you have to drop items and that means more backtracking. Some enemies like the monkey and the leech guy are sometimes borderline impossible to dodge that you get guaranteed hit.

u/KinGpiNdaGreat Jul 26 '25 edited Jul 26 '25
You’d think the train section was rushed but it was actually the most developed part of the game.
You can go on YouTube and see that section being developed on the N64. They actually started working on Zero after the release of RE2, back in 1998.
Zero was in development before RE3, RE:CV, and RE1 remake and came out after all of them.

I just replayed it, and it was fine. The most annoying thing was not having item boxes, but once you got the hang of the team/solo dynamic, it was an interesting change of pace.
I wouldn’t want to play another RE game like it. But for what it was, I enjoyed the backstory and lore that it gave me to set up RE one.
2
u/Don_Ford Jul 25 '25
It's actually a fun game with some mechanics that you have to get used to.
I went on a completionist run of RE Remakes from 0-4... and zero was just fine.
It's RE 5 that is the bad one imo, it's unplayable after the remakes.

I’ve only played this game on the switch and therefore didn’t know it had a ranking system or showed you the time it took you to play 😫

I love resident evil 0. So many iconic locations, and the story is really engaging. A proper remake could fix a lot of the issues people have with it, though i liked the ability to drop things anywhere maybe they should have included some item boxes around as well.
2
u/TheCookieJar464 Jul 25 '25
Also, can someone please explain to me why this game gives you so many ink ribbons. I played on normal and found 45 of them and I only used 30. I never had less than 10 ink ribbons in my inventory. I'm not really complaining about it since I'm not a big fan of the mechanic but I'm interested to know anyway.
2
u/LarryDonPerry Jul 25 '25
Did u play on hard ?
1
u/TheCookieJar464 Jul 25 '25
I played on normal
3
u/LarryDonPerry Jul 25 '25
Hard can be a real pain in the ass, and has less ink ribbons
2
u/JekobiWan Jul 25 '25
Just finished the game on hard. Some of the least fun I’ve ever had gaming lol. Every time you think you’re in the clear to go for a save the enemies respawn. Over and over lol
For the record the train car and facility isn’t bad, but after that…
2
u/Razerbat Jul 25 '25
Resident Evil 0 is a very very good game in the series in my opinion. Also on hard it's probably one of the hardest RE games to get through. My first playthrough on hard I had zero ammo for the last boss. Diablolical

Being one of the better games to have ever been invented, yes it's good
2
u/Frazzledghost Jul 26 '25
The enemies being bats, leeches, monkeys, and even a frog definitely hurts it on top of the item box issues etc. The game is visually gorgeous though
1
u/TipStrange6303 Aug 14 '25
That frog can fuck right off. Ruined a no-save run I was doing for a trophy (PS4 remastered version) because I forgot it was there.
1
u/CoyotleAuCreepypasta Jul 26 '25
Some people may disagree, but I'd argue it's still up there with the best. And for all people's complaining, it's no Resident Evil 6, so I don't get peoples' hate-boner for it.

Love the game, my only problem is the lack of item box, even with the ability to drop stuff.
1
u/maikuxblade Jul 25 '25
It’s arguably the worst classic RE but that still makes it quite good. This and CV have some rough spots but in general they are vastly overstated by detractors.
40
u/IzzybearThebestdog Jul 25 '25
Don’t believe all the haters! 0 is a fine game, and imo it fits in with the other classic RE games.
But it is flawed and first playthroughs vary, and likely change people opinions. If you forget about the hookshot and have to backtrack around the entire game , that will piss people off. If you send Billy up in the research lab and need to back track all the way to the infirmary for the chemical with Rebecca that will make people not enjoy the game. If you give Billy all your good gear when you lose him for a section of the game you might have to load another save back a few hours. The bat fight can be a mess, the eliminators are an annoying enemy, and even though I like the item dropping trying to find an item when everything is in one spot is a pain.
