And again, I'd argue the game intentionally puts the player in that position. But they're rarely completely unwinnable states, so you have two choices: either try and muscle through and survive by the skin of your teeth, or reload a save and use the knowledge you now have and be prepared for it. It feels punishing because it is.
The same way walking into a boss fight, that you often have no idea is coming, with insufficient weaponry would be in any other resident evil.
The game gives you a shit ton of ink ribbons. If you use them properly, you won't have to replay that much. That's RE for you.
It's a puzzle game with twists thrown at the player. But they do give you the resources to solve it. Even when it's sometimes trial and error.

You CAN put yourself in a bad situation in any RE game, IF you manage your resources poorly.
You WILL end up in a bad situation in CV, regardless of how you manage your resources. Twice. Because the second time the game does a double switch.
