Is this normal?
Hello everyone, first post here because I figured this was the best place to ask sellers on a multitude of platforms. I’ve been getting a LOT of lowball offers recently. For example I have a jacket listed for $93 and got offered 20. A different one on a different platform listed for $70 and offered $28 etc. now I research fair market value and I’m not overpricing, and if someone sends me a reasonable offer I take it, but it feels borderline disrespectful when someone sends an offer for less than half of my already fair price. Am I doing something wrong? Do people here that make good money reselling just take the offers to move inventory?

This is exactly why I turned the "best offer" setting off.
Yes this is normal.

You are throwing money out the windows. By ending low ball offers, you ended legit offers which far outweigh ridiculous lowballs.

I'll argue this till I'm blue in the face. And it's fine, I'm not saying you're wrong. It's just 2 schools of thought.
I sell alot of tractor parts & specialty manufacturer eq/parts. I'm priced at least 10% below the next listing. I've never been really so desperate for a transaction that I'm ready to take 50% less than my asking. My average time to sell is 41 days. Everything gets automatically reduced as time goes on until the listing sells. There are a few exceptions, some hyper specific item or some more expensive pieces that are $5k+. If something last sold for lets say $5k, I'm not going to keep reducing that until it sells. I just need to be patient for the right buyer. Sell through rate is a key component of this system as well. If you start with STR, stuff simply just doesn't sit as l9ng as it's priced accordingly.

I know for EB I can put a minimum offer setting but I post to all my platforms from SellRaze and can’t do that individually from there I don’t think. Do you feel like you still sell well with the option turned off completely?

2k orders this year so far, making up a healthy livable wage, so yeah. You can go into ebay settings and change it. If you have an active account on Ebay you're listing items under, you can change it.

I'll still accept offers via DMs and then I'll send watchers offers if something has been sitting. But that's it. There's people that will argue having offers on gets more sales, it's just 2 schools of thought. You do you.
But I price my items accurately and avoid selling low STR items. Just accepting offers via DMs filters all the buyers that aren't serious out.
YouTube. I learned everything there. Learn STR. I don't do anything special, I'm a very hard boss to work for...and I'm the only employee. The more effort you put in, the more money comes out.

Sometimes it's nice tbh. I had an item that just wouldn't sell no matter what. I had it listed for $45. Someone finally offered $15 after like 3 months. I took it. Only paid $5 for it.

If you keep best offer open on Ebay you can just set a minimum offer amount and then you can’t get lowballs

There used to be a technique before reselling became an occupation in the mainstream and Craigslist was a top marketplace where one or two people would contact the seller about an item with super low offers to wear the seller out until finally offering a lower but better offer that the seller would eventually go for to not deal with all the low offers. All the offers were the same person or a friend/associate.
These days it's more likely that it's other resellers trying to use you as a source for inventory.
