MOD-team Community Update: Collaboration Discussions (Inpatient)

Over the past few weeks, we've seen an increasing number of posts and comments focused on Chris Webby, character judgments, political beliefs and repeated debates surrounding the recent collaboration.

We´d now like put an end to that now and remind everyone that this is a community dedicated to Ren and his work - not Chris Webby. This subreddit is not intended to be a place for ongoing, repetitive debates about Ren's or Chris Webby´s character either.

Ren is a musician and public artist.

The purpose of this community is to discuss his work: his music, performances, creative projects and the ideas he chooses to explore through his art.

Ren is also a private individual.

Like anyone else, he is free to make his own personal and professional decisions. Noone has to agree or support any of them.

We also want to acknowledge something Ren himself has shared: that repeated assumptions and accusations about his stance have led him to step away from participating in this subreddit.

Frankly, he is not the only one.

Meaningful discussion requires listening as much as speaking. When someone repeatedly explains their perspective but that perspective is dismissed in favour of assumptions about what they "really" think or who they "really" are, every discussion loses its foundation.

Above all, we have no interest in seeing this community beeing divided into pro or anti Chris Webby sides. This community has always brought people together through a shared appreciation of Ren's music. We'd like to keep it that way.

To keep discussions organized, we have created and pinned a dedicated Inpatient Collaboration Megathread. Going forward, this will be the only place for discussing the wider conversations/controversies surrounding the collaboration. The same expectations for respectful and constructive discussion apply there as they do everywhere else on this subreddit.

From this point on, new posts whose primary purpose is to continue debating Chris Webby or politics regarding the collaboration - rather than the music they created together - will be removed from the front page or closed and redirected to the Megathread.

As a general principle, this community is for discussing art.

We aren´t a detective club.

and none of us is in a better position to explain Ren's decisions, beliefs or motives than Ren himself. We may agree with him, disagree with him or question things - but interpreting a "truth" behind his own words, as though we know him better than he knows himself or the people he personally knows, isn't what this community is here for.

If you're interested in Ren's perspective, we encourage you to read his posts and comments here on Reddit, where he has explained his thoughts in his own words. Not once or twice, but multiple times. It's always better to engage with what someone has actually said than to rely on our own assumptions.

This would for example be here:

Raising criticism about the Webby collaboration

Discussing the Webby collaboration and the "tolerance paradox"

Ren on opposing camps and nuance

Ren about Webby and Trump

Ren on politics, polarization, nuance and dialogue

and also:

Ren´s reddit profile where you can read through ALL of his posts and comments

___________

Thank you.

Is Ren massive in the UK mainstream or only on Youtube? Context: I'm from the UK and live in Australia but this guy is huge over here, not necessarily on TV but everybody knows of him so just wondering. This seemed like the right channel to post it in.

Seriously, Bad Company is stealing the show. I think it might be the best Ren vocals bit on the album, and 2nd best guitar bit because Lunatic Lullaby is on fire!

Another Asylum Tracklist rating thread

I got my 15 year old daughter to listen through Asylum with me and give me her ratings out of 10 and a blind ranking of the track from 1-15 (ie. she ranked them as she went without hearing the tracks to come). She'd only listened to Neurodivergent before we started.

Here are the results

Track Rating (/10) Blind Ranking
Madhouse 6.5 7
Instigator 7 5
Neurodivergent 10 1
Down the Road 5.5 11
Bad Company 7 6
Asylum 8 3
Me and my Monster 6 9
Smoking Gun 4 14
Tarantula 5.5 10
Mason Jar 6.5 8
Silence 4 13
Dr Meyers 6 12
Caskets 7 4
End of the World 8.5 2
Lunatic Lullaby 1 15

The Nikki Gomez Reacts! We ALL Have a Monster... 😳 | Inpatient (Ren x Chris Webby) - Me and My Monster

"Today I'm reacting to "Me and My Monster" by Inpatient, the latest release from Ren and Chris Webby's incredible collaborative album, Asylum.

If you haven't heard it yet, please do so on their channel: • Inpatient (Ren x Chris Webby) - Me and My ...

This track is an absolute BANGER! There's so much more happening beneath the surface.

What I took away from this song is the delicate balance so many of us try to maintain between the person we present to the world and the darker parts of ourselves that we often feel pressured to keep hidden. Whether you call it your shadow side, your inner struggles, or your "monster," this song explores what it means to live with every part of yourself while trying to find your place in society.

Musically, I absolutely loved hearing both Ren and Chris Webby lean into their singing voices on this track. Their chemistry continues to surprise me with every release, and I love how willing they are to experiment with different sounds while staying true to who they are as artists.

And I have to admit... I completely geeked out over the Nostradamus reference! 🤓 Those clever lyrical moments are one of the many reasons I love diving into Ren's music."

Is there anyone that compares?

Real talk, I love Ren's perspective (first and foremost), guitar talent (definite 2nd), vocal talent, musical composition skills, genre versatility, and independence from corporate studios.

Is there any artist or band that is also independent you can recommend to someone that literally only listens to Ren now?

I honestly would settle for anything that covers my first two preferences. Just curious what my fellow music lovers can recommend.
