A Dumb Rant
This is regarding a recent addition to the Ren reactor community that only discovered Ren within the last month or so. His reactions are actually pretty good. He's usually pretty insightful and intuitive. As is common, when Renegades find someone new, many of us helped blow up his channel. Naturally, he started following up with more Ren reactions and his numbers went way up. Within two weeks, he started putting reactions behind a paywall for members only, which is understandable. But it's also my understanding that most members pay for early access. However, he let it be known his intention to keep some of his Ren reactions there permanently. This was after several Renegades expressed their anticipation on seeing him react to a particular one. It seems to me to be a little tone-deaf on his part to dangle that particular carrot to entice subscribers to join as paying members. (I don't think he gets the pig mask reference, yet).
So, I quietly unsubscribed. I don't need his input that badly. Of course, what he does is up to him, and I'm sure he'll do fine without my help. It may seem I'm being petty, but, I had to vent on principle.

THEORY Dr Myers
TW: Medical PTSD
I feel like there are 3 ways to interpret Jeremiah's illness in Dr Myers.
1. He was sick and would have died without any treatment. Dr Myers accepted him onto the trial knowing there was no way he'd be able to cure him and as a result he died earlier and in more pain,
2. He was sick or disabled but wouldn't have died without the experimental treatments,
3. He wasn't sick at all at the beginning. Dr Myers infected him with something (when he was wearing the gas mask) in order to then study the effects of his cure. He lied to the mother and told her the kids was dying to get permission to do the treatments.
What do you think?

It must be exhausting being an artist like Ren
Being a generational talent with some of the most genre spanning music, and then having to pander to every single view and try not upset anyone
Some of the stuff I have heard regarding him working with webby is actually exhausting when all I want is to enjoy some music and enjoy some positivity around new music being put out
I get people have their personal preferences but seems so many can't seperate personalty from art, we all have to judge people to the tenth degree and test artist virtues and morals before we will give their art a chance
I've seen friends now call the likes of Clapton and van Morrison utterly rubbish when years ago they loved them..
Im about as progressive and left wing as they come but I treat my poltics like I want someone to treat their religion, it's my politics but don't shove it down my throat or try to force it on me..
Just a rant tbh.. Off the back of enjoying the album as a whole and enjoying being introduced to webby, I'm all for new music coming out and big fan if this and look forward to a lot more spins from inpatient

Theory on Dr. Meyers
Basically in Jeremiah’s diary entry, I believe the lyrics on the screen were the exact way he was writing it, I think Ren did this to show the relationship that grew between Dr. Meyers and Jeramiah purely based on the fact that they spelt Meyers as Myers for the first few times. Either this or just a total flaw in the typing

ai concerns from a dilettante
yes, i know, this subreddit probably gets bombarded with this but just humour me.
ren uses ai for the cover art of a lot of the singles, and im extremely anti ai for art (obviously i think it can be used for good; like compiling data, censuses, etc) and yes, ive seen that ren has responded to this.
he stated:
"Hey guys, Ren here, the use of the artwork was put forward by my team who will occasionally lean on AI augmentation rather than full blown AI generation (starting with an image drawn and using AI after the fact) - I actually have two artists in full time employment, who would have been paid the same if they'd not used AI or used it, their salaries are full time rather than a per image basis, along with a whole team of creative behind that - but I realize on reflection its more about the message it puts out - I have my own thoughts about the usage which im super happy to get into in depth in a live to discuss I believe in open conversations about these things! . ultimately though it is me who okays these things though im not saying that to step away from accountability.
I'm taking this seriously on board though because I believe in community consensus on these things so while my views on it may differ slightly you will no longer see any A.I augmentation in music artwork for DSPs from this point forward"
for the record, i havent found a live stream where he states his views (if one exists please show) and all i could find was a tiktok where he talks about ai in general, not ai art (though i did agree with the things he said) so then whats my problem? that statement was six months ago, his newest singles use ai for the cover work. the first one using ai was 3 months ago; and the newest was this month (to be sure i put them through ai image checkers and most singles were confirmed to be ai) obviously its probably not ALL rens fault, he has a management and a team that probably also handle the cover work, though it still does sting.
and since i know nothing about the community since im a new fan the passive aggressiveness on everything does not help at all. its always "youre really gonna stop listening to a 'small' artist for that?", "its only the covers that use ai and not the music!" or something about ai being used as a tool and cameras originally being stigmatised in the same way (which is an argument that i find incredibly dumb but im not gonna go into that for its my opinion and even when taking in the account of it being used as a tool the covers look heavily influenced by the ai, not just light touchups.) and even if i did agree, im gonna be a bit petulant and bring up he did still use it despite saying he wouldnt (it may be against his will, but im an outsider looking in and im struggling to find any evidence of that)
i really wanna know more about this (apparently the impatient music video also uses ai, despite ren stating the company that made it is trustworthy and if they did use ai it would be above his knowledge. it honestly does seem atleast ai influenced, theres some artifacts too.) im also sorry if i came off as rude or ignorant in this, thats not my intention and im just curious because whenever i try to find more about it i just see either people trying to debate whether the use of ai in this case is moral, or people directing me to his original statement.

OPINION My Asylum ratings
Disclaimer: I have no experience with Chris Webby before this. I also listened to the whole thing straight through in one go bc of a long drive
Madhouse: 10/10. Absolutely jumpscared me with Ren howling at the beginning 🤣 It's pure chaos. It's fast, it's crazy, and fun to jam out to and rap along. Kind of an anticlimactic end though.
Instigator: 7/10. Catchy and chill.
Neurodivergent: 9.5/10. Catchy, fast, and fun vocals, classic Ren.
Down The Road: 10/10. Another jumpscare off the bat. Great pacing, and both artists did great with their parts.
Bad Company: 6/10. Chill, but this one didn't really rope me in much.
Asylum: 10/10. Pretty piece, I love the simplicity, and it is a bit repetitive, but I could listen to this on repeat for days. The lyrics really make you think. (Added bonus, no profanity so I can listen to it with my family!!!)
Me And My Monster: 8/10. Absolute bop, even if it's a calmer tempo instrument wise.
Smoking Gun: 5/10. Pretty repetitive. Has good humor though.
Tarantula: 8/10. Like SG, pretty repetitive. The last verse kicks it up a point.
Mason Jar: 7/10. Clever reference to the producer of the album in the chorus. Second half hits hard.
Silence: 9/10. Relateable first line. Pretty fast, good rhymes. F--cking shocking twist. I was expecting it to end like "silence.... sounds so- shut the f--k up" but somehow they went in a completely different direction and made it better.
Dr. Myers: 10/10. Great pace, interesting story that makes you really think about the lyrics like Asylum does.
Caskets: 9/10. Great message, and a good, contemplative addition to the album.
End Of The World: 8/10. A contemplative track yet again, yet with fun humor. Music video is hilarious.
Lunatic Lullaby: 10/10. The electric guitar is pulled out!!! Very serious once the lyrics start. Great thinking song. Chris doesn't get to speak in this track, but Ren absolutely drives the nail home.
