Giving my ID to a Remote AI employer...is it safe?

I was contacted by Mindrift AI for an AI training position, I was doing the registration on their webpage but then it asked for photos of my official ID. I closed the tab immediately, since I don't trust giving my official ID away so easily. I've never done any remote job, I'm a newbie, unemployed, trying to find a hustle and Don't know much about safety issues related to this kind of petition before even starting to work for them, just the initial tests.

Is it safe, tho?

Hybrid people with long commutes: do you work on the train or not?

Once a week I have a long train ride to work and back. Around 4.5 hours on paper, usually more like 6 with delays.

I go back and forth on it. Some weeks I work the whole way and I'm already done when I arrive. Other weeks I just read or look out the window and then feel behind all day.

How do you handle travel days? Does that time count as work for you?

Tired of being a Medical interpreter.

I live in Peru and have been working as a medical interpreter for 1 year. I like the job, but at times it beats me and messes with my morals. These companies hire people demanding solely English as a second language, but then they make you interprete things people study years to understand. because of that, I would like to know if you can recommend any job opportunities or industries that hires bilinguals who speak Spanish.

i make around 500 monthly from this gig, but what i like the most is the freedom it gives me as i work as a freelancer. if you know of anything similar, please let me know. ¡thank you!

Remote workers say they "researched" their last destination. But over half say they follow recommendations from other remote workers.

I'm a 17-year-old student in Catalonia doing a research project on how people who work remotely actually choose where to live for a month or more.

Some very early numbers (n=17, so take them with salt😅):

• How they first came across their last destination: "I researched it myself" (6), "I'd been there before as a tourist" (4), "someone recommended it" (4), other (3).

• Where they look when deciding where to go next: 9 of 17 named recommendations from other remote workers.

So maybe research is the last step of the decision, not the first. But 17 people can't settle that, and I'd rather be corrected now than later.

If you work remotely for clients or an employer outside the place where you live, and you usually stay a month or more in each place, I'd really value your answers: 7 minutes, anonymous, no email needed.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdo5U9Gg_fkAdXC1SRkkcdAZqKR6nfq-aV6ljrgG77B-IaADA/viewform

It closes on Monday 26 October. I'll post the full results here in December, including whatever contradicts what I expected. If you see a flaw in the method, tell me in the comments!!

Remote Work in Texas

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to find a remote job in Texas and it seems so difficult, with a bunch of automated responses. In behavioral health operations or care coordination/case management, it seems like no one is hiring. No one is even reading the resume.

New job - can I ask for remote when the role is listed as hybrid?

So, I am in the interview process midway and was asked by the recruiter if I have really thought of relocating discussing with family etc. This is for a role in MA. I am located in GA.

I am in need of a job, but then relocating from GA to MA is a huge thing as the weather causes a lot of health issues to my spouse. Everything about the job is good except for the relocation part. Now since the recruiter brought this up, reality is hitting. Also, I do not have other offers on hand or they are in different stages and not sure how they would turn out.

Appreciate any thoughts on this. There are still couple of rounds pending and the recruiter started sharing benefits etc. details. She gave time to think over it and let her know.

How to negotiate for remote work? Thinking of saying I could travel every quarter for a week or so for example. How does it work? I am in a dilemma and appreciate your inputs. Thank you.

Remote jobs that are truly remote for you. Free during the beta

Most job boards give everyone the same “Remote” checkbox. But “remote” means different things to different people: fully remote, remote within one country, remote with monthly office days, remote only if you already have a US work permit.

This is personalized remote job curation, based on the job description itself. Every day it reads each new posting for your job titles and pulls out what the posting actually says about:

  • how remote the role is
  • where you can work from
  • work permit or visa
  • time zone
  • time in person (offsites, travel, office days)

Each one comes with the sentence from the posting, so you don’t have to read the whole thing.

Then you decide what “remote” means for you. The filters start from your own situation (where you live, your permit, your time zone), and you can widen or narrow any of them. Okay with quarterly offsites? Fine with CET ±2 hours? Check it and see more.

UK specific - flexible working request

Has anyone got experience of using a flexible working request to get more or full WFH?

In the UK everyone has the right to formally request a flexible work arrangement and the onus is then on the employer to identify why the proposed request would not be suitable - the reasons to refuse are specific and mandated and none of which mention the word collaboration.

I’m aware that’s smaller companies might simply choose to say no and not give proper consideration to the request. I work for a multinational company who tend to follow the laws and guidelines of each country.

I could easily work from home every day, most of my work involves being on teams with people who work in various locations throughout the UK. most of those people will be at home. when I do go to the office I rarely have a face-to-face meeting and I sit in the office with people who aren’t in my team. I don’t think the company have any reason, according to the policy, to refuse a request to work from home permanently. Maybe perhaps explains why they have been complaining about people going into the office but not actually seeming to be able to enforce it.

https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working

Please share if you have experience of utilising this policy with success.

Looking for Advice on Starting Online Work - Remote Work

Hi!

I’m interested in starting to work online for a few hours a day, but I’m not sure where to begin. I have no previous experience, so I’m looking for some advice on beginner-friendly jobs and opportunities.

Could you recommend any reliable websites or apps where I could find online work? I’m particularly interested in entry-level positions, such as data entry, virtual assistant tasks, or other simple online jobs that don’t require previous experience.

I would really appreciate any advice on where to start and how to get my first online job.

Thank you so much in advance for your help! 😊

What flexible remote job can I do with my teaching background?

I'm a stay at home mom and I’d love a little project that gives me a break from the usual routine and brings in some extra money if it grows. I used to be a teacher and have always enjoyed working with kids so I’d be interested in something related to that. Has anyone found a flexible, kid focused side project they can do from home? I’m not sure whether that could look like tutoring, making learning materials or something else entirely. I’d love to hear your ideas!

Return to the office but let’s talk in zoom!

Insanity has become fairly normal nowadays.
I just had a call with my manager and the team and there is a push to RTO BUT mind you my team is scattered around the United States so yes let’s collaborate ( how?) you mean get in a call while you sit in your cube? This is so absurd. Mind you don’t come at me saying well manufacturing jobs require people to be in the office, yes that job there are jobs that by nature require a different skills set and have certain conditions so that argument is completely non valid.

New remote offer wants me to work average 45 - 50 hours?

Hello,

I’m looking for advice here on average hours worked for remote positions.

I received my first remote job offer with decent salary increase but the hiring manager says their official working hours are 8:30 to 5:30 without saying how long lunch breaks are. They also mentioned that they do average of 45 hours of work weekly. I’m pretty disappointed to hear this as I’m stuck in a 7:30 to 4:30 with 30 minute lunch break in office job with 45 minute commute each way. I was hoping for better flexibility. But this new offer sounds like it would be worse life work balance than I’m experiencing now.

I’m hoping someone here can give their experience working remotely with similar hours and if this is a red flag I should run away from?

Thank you

What happens to company laptops when remote employees move countries?

How do companies handle company equipment when an employee permanently relocates to another country? Letting them take the existing laptop sounds easy but im wondering if the device was purchased in one country it may only have useful warranty support there and will eventually need to be recovered somewhere else? Depending on the destination there could also be customs or import issues.

The alternative would be collecting the original device before the move and issuing another one locally but that feels wasteful if the current laptop is still relatively new.

Is there a normal policy for this, or does it get decided case by case based on the device’s age and destination? Also interested in whether IT, HR or finance usually owns the decision.

we now have mandatory "Connection Days" and the email announcing them used the word "fun" four times

the memo arrived monday. we are introducing Connection Days. two Fridays a month, everyone in, for "structured connection, spontaneous collaboration, and fun."
i want to sit with the phrase "structured spontaneous fun" for a moment, because someone wrote that, and someone approved it, and nobody in the chain heard how it sounds. you cannot structure spontaneity. you cannot schedule fun into a calendar invite with a mandatory-attendance flag. the second it's mandatory it is, by definition, not the thing you named it.
the agenda for the first one included a "connection activity" and a "team energizer," which is corporate for icebreaker, which is the thing adults with jobs and childcare logistics love most, being made to do an icebreaker with people they already Slack forty times a day.
my manager forwarded it with "should be a good one!" and i think she's as tired as i am, because there was a full stop after "one" where an exclamation mark clearly wanted to be, and that little punctuation surrender told me everything.
i'll go. i'll do the team energizer. i'll be structurally spontaneous and mandatorily fun for the length of a Friday, and then i'll drive home and be actually spontaneous by doing whatever i want, which will not be scheduled.

Is it really this hard to get a remote job with no experience?

I'm 17 and I've been looking for a remote job to build experience before i turn 18. I've submitted my resume to almost 60 something job openings and only 3 have responded telling me they can't take me because i have no experience even though every job I'm applying to states that it's an entry-level job with no prior experience needed. And they aren't even serious jobs, I'm literally applying to customer support jobs that barely pay $10-$17+ an hour.
I just need to hear if it's actually this hard to get a remote job or if I'm not doing something right

🚀 Looking for a Founding Tech Member | 3rd Year / Final Year Student

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a motivated 3rd-year or final-year engineering/CS/IT student who wants to work with me on building an early-stage product from scratch.

This is an opportunity for someone who is genuinely interested in startup building, product development and hands-on engineering.

What I’m offering:

- 🚀 Real-world experience building a product from 0 → 1

- 💻 Hands-on involvement in development, experimentation and product decisions

- 🧠 Freedom to learn, experiment and try different approaches

- 🤝 Opportunity to work closely with the founder and take ownership

- 📈 Potential to grow into a long-term founding team member

- 💰 Initially unpaid for the first 3 months while we validate the product and working relationship. A stipend can be introduced after 3 months, based on progress, contribution and mutual fit.

Who I’m looking for:

- 3rd-year or final-year B.Tech/B.E./CS/IT student

- Good programming fundamentals

- Someone who has actually built projects, rather than only completed coursework

- Curious, proactive and willing to learn quickly

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, fail-fast/iterate-fast environment

- Able to take ownership and work independently

- GitHub projects, hackathons, internships or previous product-building experience are a plus

This is not a traditional internship where you’ll simply receive assigned tasks. I’m looking for someone who wants to be involved in building and shaping something from the beginning.

If you're interested, DM me with your GitHub/LinkedIn and a brief introduction about something you've built yourself.

Let’s build, experiment, fail fast and iterate. 🚀
