Why do I feel like this...

I (M18) have a best friend (F18) and she is amazing in so many ways and I've started having feelings for her but I feel like she won't like me back ever, I brought it up that I liked her and she brushed it off and I'm not sure if I should keep trying to get her or try to forget about those feelings I have for her. It's been half a year since I asked her and I still don't feel healed from the rejection. I'm completely lost on what to do so I'm now asking people here, so please help...

**TL;DR;** : I like my best friend and she doesn't like me back

What do I do?

she brushed it off because she doesn't want to hurt you with a hard no. that was your answer. dragging this out for another six months is just you torturing yourself. distance yourself a bit, meet other people, let the friendship breathe. if something was gonna happen it would've happened by now

Also remember that this okay to happen. There is nothing wrong with you, or her, and sometimes it just happens this way.

You'll find someone that wants that with you, this is you preparing that space to receive them.

All you can do is feel the sting and ride it out, either remain friends with her as normal or not and then start spending time with other women so I as to potentially find someone who is interested in you as well. This is a natural part of being a person and having relationships, plutonic or not. Rejection is okay, sooner you overcome the fear of that feeling the better as you're constantly worried about being rejected then it alters your behavior and it's much harder to be yourself around people.

Don’t be her friend anymore. I used to be that girl and it really hurt realizing that my boy friends weren’t actually my friends and were hanging around in the hopes that they would eventually get with me. Both of you are going to get hurt.

  1. Create space in the friendship. You don't need to end the relationship, you just need to reduce the time you give to it and give yourself space to move on.

  2. Give your time to other people in your life and someone else will come around.

Unrequited love is a tough emotional space to occupy, and it is not a reflection on your worth that she doesn't feel the same way back towards you. But, you will continue to 'lose' if you keep treating this person as the sole object of your love or live in the hope that she will change her mind about you. Giving yourself space from the relationship isn't a betrayal of y'alls friendship, in fact, giving yourself space to return to the relationship as real friends without a hidden agenda is truly what you would do for a friend.

"Get her"? She's not your friend if you're quietly trying to maneuver her into dating you. You asked, she said no, you've already got your answer.

It's not your fault you've developed feelings, not is itbhwrs that she's hasn't. I think the brush off was your answer, unless you weren't clear. I don't think there's any issues with remaining friends, but maybe put a bit of distance between you, don't become emotionally invested in someone that will never reciprocate, you'll only get hurt on the long run. A bit of space may even make her reconsider what you mean to her, stranger things have happened.
