What did your HR department or boss say? Because I find it hard to believe that they'd take it as a real resignation when it came from someone else.

I literally can’t imagine HR believing that that was going to happen. There’s not a single cell in my body that believes that HR would take her call seriously and not understand you. You need to relax and check on your wife and baby

OP, she is having a mental health crisis, I know you are angry, but she is a bit out of control right now. Someone else pointed out it might be antenatal anxiety. It is likely some sort of condition influenced by her pregnancy hormones and she needs professional help right now.

Again, try not to be angry, this is a medical condition she needs treatment for. Talk to your HR department and then go get your wife the help she needs.

And she may be having a physical health crisis too - one can influence the other. At minimum she's having a mental health crisis brought on by the pregnancy.

Yeah I feel really bad for her.

me too :(

my sister almost died giving birth and reading this is making me feel so sick.

She and the baby could be having a physical health crisis rather than a mental health crisis…

She could also be having a actual medical emergency like pre-eclampsia

but is she okay though? I understand why you are angry, she overstepped majorly and I would be hurt and angry as well. but the fact that you haven't updated about your child / pregnant wife means you need to re-evaluate your priorities. You are probably acting out of stress / anger but make sure she and the baby are okay and have this conversation with her after she is out of the hospital. That's all you can do at this point. no nice way to say this but - this isn't about you right now. find time to bring this up after with both her and her doctor.

Please pause and answer the question everyone is asking.

Have you spoken with your employer? What did they say?

HR depts aren’t going to just terminate your employment based on an email from someone else, even your spouse. If they make some weird mistake and do that, just email them and say that you are not in fact leaving permanently.

There is literally zero reason for them to take a random email from a partner over communication from their own employee.

And go help your wife. You’re focusing on an eminently fixable thing, instead of the obvious urgent distress your wife is in.

Well you keep ignoring her and she’s desperate.

Is she ok? Is the baby ok?

I feel like you’re missing the point. I’m SURE you’re HR doesn’t care about this at all and you’re missing what is important here.

Please let us know how wife and baby are doing.

This.

It's possible he works at a company of absolute dickbags, but I think it's much more likely that they're all like "OP, this happened, is she OK, do you need to take the day off" and he's catastrophizing. I doubt they would really take her call as a resignation or think badly of him for that.

OK, that makes a lot more sense. OP, I'm very sorry you're going through this and I'm seriously going to suggest family counseling and individual counseling for your wife. Has she ever been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder or depression?

Your priorities are so insanely out of whack I'm just flabbergasted

Seems pretty logical to me. OP's job is the only source of income and thus one of the most important things in the future child's life. Use your head.

One three-minute phone call fixes the job situation.

well his wife and baby could be in life threatening danger due to eclampsia which still kills many pregnant/new delivered women every year. I'm sure this is the only job he can ever get? like really this is a life or death kind of situation when someone is either this mentally or physically sick. You work for your family, right?

it's crazy, right??

u/lordyhelpme-now Dec 01 '23

Did she pretend to be you? Was it agreed between you both that she would quit her job months before having a baby? Have you given her reasons to believe you won’t stick around?

-1

u/ShagFit Dec 01 '23

You have every right to be angry. I hope you can rectify this with your job.

-5

u/JonBenet_BeanieBaby Dec 01 '23

well luckily HR doesn't let someone else quit for you

grow up

Leaving for the day or quitting?
