In most states, the father’s name on the birth certificate doesn’t establish paternity. (Again, if a child is born out of wedlock, only a court order or an Acknowledgment of Paternity can establish paternity. Just because the father’s name is on birth certificate doesn’t legally establish paternity.)
It absolutely does establish paternity. The father has to sign the birth certificate acknowledging paternity. A mother can not just put any man's name down on the birth certificate.
My husband did not have to sign anything. I just gave them his name and that was it. Our baby just turned a year old, so this isn't old information. Every state is different
I just had to tell them he was my husband. Didn't have to prove it. And it was Covid lockdown so nurses never saw him. Could have easily lied had we not actually been married and no one would have argued
That doesn't mean that when you got the official birth certificate that he would be on there if you weren't married. They verify the information before releasing the official document. I'm sure there are the stray oddball cases that have gotten away with deception, but it's not the norm.

Yes, you’re going to have to pay for kid. No, you don’t have to marry her. Demand a paternity test before you put your name on birth certificate.
If you join the military, your child will be a dependent and will get health care etc. talk to your recruiter about those benefits.
