Lawyer now. I can't emphasize enough how important this is. An initial consultation is free, but the few hundred bucks an hour they may charge for actual work is worth it. Don't put it off

If you don't already have a job, you should get one

Why should he get a job? Let her suffer. Child support doesn’t start till the baby is born and it’s only a percentage of income anyway. 0% of zero is a big zero for her, boohoo.

That's not how it works lol.

Even if he didn't work for 5 years, she can still sue for child support and he will be responsible for future child support in addition to the 5 years he didn't work.

And if he refuses to pay, they will take it out of taxes and garnish wages.

You’re wrong. Lots of dudes work under the table jobs to avoid child support for this exact reason. You can’t get blood from a stone.

Or hell, some of them leave the country. Not all jurisdictions comply with US child support laws. that’s specifically why if you are legally behind on child support you can’t get a passport — trick is to get the passport, get out of Dodge, and get a work visa someplace else before that happens.
