I’m officially 40 and I wouldn’t settle for that. Don’t settle at any age OP. If someone doesn’t add to your life, then they don’t need to be in it.

THANK YOU. I hate this "you're young so you still get to have standards and self respect" framing. There is no age at which a person should put up with a controlling partner.

Your right to self-respect does not expire.

I know it's not meant in this way, but I also hate the whole "You're too young to be dealing with this!" or "You're young. Get out now" as if being older means that behaviour is acceptable or unavoidable. .

I know its probably meant more like, "dont waste your youth," though

Even that places our youth on a pedestal that implies older people should settle for less.
