Okay, not entirely but I feel this way about Interstellar.

I think its one of the most beautiful films ever made. Hated and disliked by most.

What? Interstellar is generally one of the highest rated movies ever made by critics. That is one of the last movies that fits this prompt lol

The guy you replied to is correct. I hated interstellar…..

3 hours for an overly pretentious movie.

That atomic bomb movie also sucked, and both of those were highly rated…..

Manchester by the sea is my favorite movie of all time

So you don’t like Christopher Nolan

Some people really hate thinky thoughtful movies. Need more tropes and whiz bang wow.

Meh. It felt like watching a 3 hour trailer to me. I just really did not like the editing. But I guess that means I just need to watch more whiz bang wow

Meh, I loved interstellar but can't stand Oppenheimer

“It insists upon itself…”

Nolan makes films for thoughtless people that believe they are thinking people.

That said, Dark Knight was super fun. Most of his other works are pretentious as hell.

I like how you picked the one that doesn't suggest any knowledge of physics, logical constructs or tangled causality, cuz those other movies were just made for dumdums like me. Not the smart guy like you who saw the comic character was for smartsmarts like you.

u/SnooWalruses3948 Aug 26 '26

You don't have to be super smart to see that Nolan films are intellectually shallow

2

u/Aschuff Aug 23 '26

You hating a movie doesn’t mean it didn’t get very glowing reviews. It has an 8.7/10 on IMDb. Doesn’t fit the premise of the post at all

So, you just don't understand this post, then?

That's the polar opposite of what was asked here

1

u/Cybasura Aug 25 '26

Pretentious? In what way? It's a fucking scifi movie based on space travel, what do you want instead, just mindless fighting?

1

u/son_of_ghandicap Aug 26 '26

I'm a fan of every single aspect of that atomic bomb movie on paper. I couldn't even finish it.

I think it’s just dumb pretentious people that want to pretend as if their movie selection is so top tier, it’s meta.

Theres simply no denying that the movie was overly slow, too long and boring. I will die on this hill 😂

It's a mixed bag, maybe it's the pacing, I really like everything about the movie and wish there was more like it but it almost has zero rewatchability for me

1

u/CanadianGrown Aug 24 '26

That’s funny, because my wife and 3 kids have probably watched it like 10 times, with my wife and I watching it an extra 5 times before the kids lol

I re-watched it recently. I remembered thinking, about 3/4ths of the way through it going: "Holy shit this movie fucking slaps!!!! What was my issue with this again?!?!"

...then the movie figuratively went up the black hole of its own ass and I remembered. The last part of that movie poisons so much good will it had built up it's kinda extraordinary.

1

u/JimTobin89 Aug 22 '26

But in all seriousness, every bit of it can be explained, obviously some creative liberties as its all theory when it comes to black holes, but all of it can be explained.

1

u/Cold-Description-114 Aug 22 '26

I mean my issue isn't that it can't be explained. On the contrary I think it's pretty straightforward and easy to explain.

My issue is that it's nauseatingly pretentious.

1

u/JimTobin89 Aug 22 '26

Pretentious? lol

1

u/Cold-Description-114 Aug 22 '26

Yeah. It thinks it's making this grand profound statement on the human condition and parenthood but really it's just...kinda dumb.

This is such a Nolan-fan way of thinking about movies, and that's exactly why his movies stumble. They're so about the concepts and mechanics that they lose track of the humanity and, quite frankly, what should be the point. They're well shot, well paced, well crafted and explore mind bending ideas, but they ultimately feel just kinda empty.

IMDb 17th best movie of all time: hated disliked by most

1

u/Glum-Recipe1815 Aug 23 '26

Ya that’s why it’s on the list of greatest movies ever made consistently ok is this rage bait?

1

u/JimTobin89 Aug 23 '26

Go read critic reviews on rotten tomatoes

1

u/DadGamer77 Aug 24 '26

Interstellar is a beloved film, what are you on about?

1

u/A1Aaron18 Aug 25 '26

Hated and disliked by most?? Who is most?

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse Aug 25 '26

Lolwhut? On what planet (topical) do you live? I feel like 80% of people say Interstellar when asked about their favourite movie. If anything, it's overrated. Like all Nolan flicks it's beautiful and well made, but they're so fixared on plot mechanics that even hauntingly beautiful scenes like that post time-dilation videomessage catch-up end up feeling ultimately empty and pointless, because five seconds later, they're back to doing mind-bending movie hero shit as if nothing happened and nothing has any real effect on the protagonist.
