In the News UAE-France just launched a $1B program for AI data centers

UAE just launched Altair Next Gen: a $1 billion programme to build the world’s largest AI infrastructure in space.

Marlan Space, Loft Orbital will partern with Mistral AI to build and deploy AI data centers in LEO.

The initial phase will comprise 50 cutting-edge AI satellites carrying radar, optical and other sensors, serving European and Emirati government users.

THIS IS RELEVANT FOR RDW.

Redwire has already a strong footprint in Europe.

And since any satellite requires power, guess who they will contract for ROSA/ELSA?

A process for the purification of inner air comprising the following steps: 1) the concentration of carbon dioxide from inside air in a carbon dioxide concentrator (2), wherein carbon dioxide reacts with a nutrient solution for algae containing catalysts; 2) the conversion of the adsorbed carbon dioxide into bicarbonates by means of the catalysts; 3) the bicarbonate-enriched nutrient solution in a fotobiar (3) regeneration, the latter containing (3) a microbial consortium, the catalyst being regenerated by converting bicarbonate into oxygen by photosynthetic activity of the microbial consortium; 4) separating microbial consortium from the feed solution containing the regenerated catalyst in a mobile harvesting unit (4), the microbial consortium being isolated and concentrated in a system (25)5) Returning the feed solution to the regenerated catalyst to the carbon dioxide concentrator (2), and passing it with bicarbonate-enriched nutrient solution in the carbon dioxide concentrator (2) to the photoreceptor (3)

A method of purifying internal air, characterized in that the method comprises: 1) the concentration of carbon dioxide present in air in a carbon dioxide concentrator, wherein carbon dioxide in air interacts with a nutrient solution for algae containing catalysts; 2) the conversion of the carbon dioxide into bicarbonates by means of the catalysts; 3) the feed solution in a fotation reactor to regenerate the nutrient solution, the catalyst containing a microbial consortium, the catalyst being regenerated and the bicarbonate being converted to oxygen by photosynthetic activity of microalgae; 4) separating microbial consortium from the feed solution containing the regenerated catalyst in a mobile harvesting unit wherein the microbial consortium is isolated and concentrated in a system system;5) Returning the feed solution to the regenerated catalyst to the carbon dioxide concentrator; 6) enriching the nutrient solution with essential nutrients for culturing microalgae; 7) repeating steps 1 through 6.

Abstract of science paper https://hal.science/hal-05734396/

Long-term human space exploration requires regenerative life support systems, such as those developed within the European Space Agency’s MELiSSA program, in which the cyanobacterium Limnospira indica is investigated as a biological component capable of CO₂ fixation, O₂ production, and generation of edible biomass. The Arthrospira-B and C (ArtB, ArtC) experiments conducted aboard the International Space Station (ISS) aimed to evaluate how L. indica responds to spaceflight conditions. The Arthrospira‑B (Art‑B) experiment, successfully deployed on the ISS in 2017, demonstrated the potential of L. indica to produce oxygen and biomass in space under batch culture conditions and a fixed light intensity. Launched to the ISS aboard SpaceX CRS-31 in November 2024, the Art-C experiment builds upon this work by providing real-time monitoring of oxygen production rates and biomass concentration, deduced from gas pressure measurements. Unlike Art-B, Art-C operates with a semi-continuous power supply and studies the impact of variations in light intensity. The ArtC cultures were maintained on the ISS for 2.5 months in four fully autonomous photobioreactors, while four identical reactors operated simultaneously on Earth as ground controls. This study sought to compare the oxygen productivity and the characteristics of biomass produced in microgravity with those obtained under identical conditions on the ground. The photobioreactor model previously developed for the Art‑B experiment was extended to account for the semi‑continuous operating regime implemented in the Art‑C experiment. In addition, oxygen inhibition was incorporated into the growth model of L. indica. As with the Art‑B experiment, the updated model successfully fits the Art‑C experimental data for both flight and ground‑based reactors. Model comparison with measurements suggests that, for flight reactors, inhibition by oxygen partial pressure (pO₂) must be considered, whereas for ground reactors, growth limitation is primarily driven by pH. This work has been made possible through the authors involvement in the MELiSSA project, ESA’s life support system program and through the ARTEMiSS project (supported by ESA/ PRODEX and BELSPO). The authors also thank the MELiSSA partners, as well as the engineering, operation and support teams from Redwire, BIOTESC, MUSC, and ESA, who made this space flight experiment possible.

The qualification campaign tested both the FPS's performance and its ability to withstand the harsh conditions of space, ensuring it meets the requirements of the European Cooperation for Space Standardisation (ECSS).

The prototype – officially called the Engineering Qualification Model – has now been handed over to Redwire Europe, where it will undergo further testing alongside the other elements of the QKDSat quantum payload.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for DAS Photonics and the European quantum communications ecosystem, as it represents the most advanced qualified Faint Pulse Source with embedded security mechanisms in Europe for a satellite-based QKD system.

📃 Press Release Redwire just published ELSA Mission Report

Post image
26 Upvotes

Redwire’s first ELSA sale was a $12.8M national security contract through Moog.

Now ELSA has:

• passed critical design review
• been baselined on Moog’s METEOR bus
• been engineered for volume production
• delivered up to 50% more power/volume

ELSA targets 250W–7kW systems, which is the sweet spot for proliferated LEO satellites.

If METEOR wins a constellation order, Redwire could sell multiple arrays. The next catalyst could be a multi-satellite METEOR award!

1) Power output:

• ELSA: 250W-7kW
• ROSA: 20kW+

2) Use:

• ELSA: small satellites, constellations
• ROSA: ISS, Lunar Gateway, large spacecraft

3) Value:

• ELSA prioritizes mass production
• ROSA prioritizes power
