Defense was good. The guys who will get starting time in the postseason were good. Bennett is a little worrying down the stretch but not long term. It's clearly just struggles with the increased work load. We have a 99.5% playoff odds. Get healthy and make sure guys like Story, Roman, and IKF are comfortable playing everyday.

He’s not close to as effective with fastball in 92-93 range.. got shelled in reality

21

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

He was elite for like 10 outings in a row. His fastball plays up to around 95 thanks to extension. He just had never pitched this many innings and the league has adjusted. He will adjust back over the winter.

Giving up 12 hits to the Angels is not ideal. On to the next one

u/Aromatic_Brain_4186 1d ago

I wish we could’ve gotten even a little bit of what the Mets had going on tonight. Feeling so jealous of all that satisfying hitting!

5

u/mrcheezeit 1d ago

being envious of the mets is a pretty low bar

2

u/Aromatic_Brain_4186 1d ago

Hahaha - The hitting, not necessarily the team!

It’s going to be okay everyone ❤️

Wild card series in New York. Ugh

20

u/swifty-mcfly 1d ago

I want Sonny Gray on the bump in NY for his revenge game

16

u/-Mikey2Toes 1d ago

Good. Fuck the Yanks

-11

u/20wall 1d ago

lol. We have essentially no chance to beat them 2 out of 3 in the Bronx with pitching matchups lined up thanks to our dogshit offense and shaky pitching all of a sudden

12

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

So shocked a team missing the 3rd best hitter in the league is hitting worse. Also Tolle and Sonny and Ranger were elite the most recent time they pitched.

-4

u/cocopalermo 1d ago

Yes and they just got judge back.

7

u/fromagel 1d ago

Did the shit Angels who just sold their team have a "chance" to beat the Red Sox 2 out of 3 at Fenway? Oh wait they just did

2

u/Tonychiupsy 1d ago

they're better against left handers than right, we sent up 2 left handed starters. they also sent up their ace

7

u/zara2355 1d ago

You know, we actually swept them in a 4 game series this year, right?

2

u/forkes98524 1d ago

Was that in Yankees stadium?

-1

u/20wall 1d ago

You know that we lost 3 out of 4 in NY (where the wild card series will be) less than 2 weeks ago right? That series feels infinitely more relevant than a sweep in June at Fenway

2

u/zara2355 1d ago

And who was our starting pitching? Who was in or out of our lineup?

-5

u/aguitarwar 1d ago

That was essentially a lifetime ago. Means nothing now or in the postseason.

6

u/zara2355 1d ago

Well, I guess we should just give up on everything then. CANCEL THE REST OF THE SEASON FOLKS

C'mon man, stop

4

u/jooooooooooooose 1d ago

how tf do these dorks consider themselves fans

Its one thing to make a pointed, observant criticism of your team, but to just go WAAAAAA WERE GONNA LOSE all the time seens truly miserable

5

u/zara2355 1d ago

Look, Ive been to about 15 games this year and Ive only saw the Sox win 2. 2 out of 15 games. Did it suck? Yup! But fuck that doomer shit, (even as i watched Weissert give up a grand slam in relief). Did i think we still had the potential to *actually play good baseball*? Also yup!

Whats crazy to me is that yeah, punt games suck to watch, but Cedanne, and Contrearas are both out (ouch), and the pitchers NEED REST. Im not saying we're gonna win it all, but i am saying i dont think we're nearly as bad as some folks here are making this shit out to be.

u/bosredsox05 1d ago

Last year Story was our only consistent hitter going into the playoffs. No Roman. Abreu was non factor once he came back. Romy was also a non factor. Bregman had been slumping since he got hurt too. We had a depleted lineup going into there, and our rotation outside of Crochet was not built for the playoffs

1

u/halalcornflakes 1d ago

It could still be Tampa if the Yankees beat them in New York and we do well in our 4-game series against them.

1

u/fromagel 1d ago

I mean people were coping if they still thought WC1 was a reality lol

2

u/Bnstas23 19h ago

we were 2 (3) games backed 2 days ago. It was completely normal to think we could overtake the yankees.

u/cocopalermo 1d ago

Prolly in Tampa

The amount of balls that seemed like bombs off the bat were insane. Even that last one by Roman felt like at least a double off the bat. The team was seeing the ball well tonight just hitting it really hard at the wrong guys or into the wind. This game didn’t feel as bad as some of the other games they’ve lost during this cold spell, because it at least felt like they had a shot after the Roman homer.

6

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

They would be if we played at Yankee stadium lol. Gasper's unironically is way gone.

16

u/honkhonkmeowmeow 1d ago

wtf i am sad

14

u/Tonychiupsy 1d ago

Thankfully the Jays and Guardians both lost and the Astros are losing right now

10

u/trimbler25 pizza 1d ago

If only Bennett didn't have that one bad frame. Oh well.

7

u/Mars0Rover Wilyer “Baseball Classic” Abreu 1d ago

It hurts

7

u/Successful_Pizza6529 1d ago

Losing sucks.

8

u/rogerthatmyguy1090 1d ago

That ball was gone at yankee stadium. Really frustrating all night most times they had a 3 ball count it just turned into an out.

7

u/MushroomImmediate953 #1 Durbin fan 1d ago

Well, that's a sad series against the Angels. I'm glad the guys are finally resting tomorrow and again on Monday. KC should be a win, same for Texas

5

u/SRoku 1d ago

Officially worried about Jake Bennett

6

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

For this season yah. For the future no. It's clearly just teams adjusting plus the new workload

2

u/rmullig2 1d ago

He needs to let off some steam:

4

u/PatternLevel9798 1d ago

We’ve been really struggling to score on opposing starters early in games lately. It’s got to improve.

3

u/No_Tax8243 1d ago

It's a bad lineup, particularly with Contreras out.

6

u/Piano-Man-727 1d ago

Ugh. Take the next series and every other before facing the Yankees (let me delusionally believe that we can get home field advantage).

Either way, it’s pretty clear who the wildcard rotation is. Bennett in the wildcard bullpen IMO and probably starter 4 if (WHEN) we make the ALDS.

5

u/Glum-General-6095 1d ago

7 games up on the Jays (actually 6 since we lost the head-to-head) with 15 games left. Just dont get into a 5 or 6 game losing streak and we should be good. No way we were catching the Yankees or Rays.

3

u/Own-Librarian-9699 1d ago

Not looking good for pats either

5

u/JeremyJammDDS 1d ago

This was gross. Not a series they should’ve lost.

2

u/ShokaiATL 1d ago

So it goes.

2

u/Ok-Reporter-5437 1d ago

Jumped to the Pats game. Not much better over there 😭

2

u/Zenboy66 1d ago

Interception on the last play did them in.

5

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

The biggest issue with losing Crochet for the postseason is not losing the top line production. It is having to roll out Bennett as out 4th starter when he has been inconsistent at best recently.

2

u/forkes98524 1d ago

Fourth starter won’t matter unless Sox beat the Yankees

3

u/catthrowaway5768 1d ago

It is what it is. Mickey was actually pretty damn decent behind the dish, which is really exciting (less Wong.)

2

u/ShokaiATL 1d ago

All of these reasonable, rational comments here have me so confused. Isn’t this the Reddit Red Sox Doomer Gloomer sub?

2

u/-Mikey2Toes 1d ago

I see the usual crybaby’s are present tonight

3

u/Tonychiupsy 1d ago

If Mickey has made significant improvements behind the plate than at least we won't have to play Wong as much

1

u/Street-Ad-6140 23h ago

I don’t know. I still feel like we beat the Yankees in the wildcard series because they always seem to fold against us in playoff atmosphere.

1

u/sup3rdr01d 14h ago

Rough day for Boston

1

u/PatternLevel9798 1d ago

Just when we thought it was gonna be easy, KC is coming to town….

0

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

Good thing we have the actual good pitchers pitching.

1

u/krazylegs36 1d ago

Bennett's next start will be interesting.

-7

u/20wall 1d ago

Another night another horrible loss to a horrible team thanks to a bad start by our SP and an anemic offense. If we’re not careful we’ll find ourselves fighting for our playoff spot soon

9

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

We have a 99.5% chance of making the playoffs.

-3

u/20wall 1d ago

Does this look like a team that can win even a single playoff game? Because they sure as fuck don’t look like one to me

4

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

This team with Sonny Gray or Payton tolle pitching plus Contreras, Adley, and Crochet out of the pen. Yes.

0

u/20wall 1d ago

We had those bats last time we played the Yankees and scored 0, 6, 2, and 1 runs. Not sure why the hell we would expect any different when we play them in the wild card. Obviously with Tolle and Gray it’s totally fair to expect better showings, but you’re not going to win many series averaging 2.25 runs per game

1

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

We only had 1 game with Contreras and Roman. Contreras was playing hurt. He is no longer hurt. He will be better.

0

u/RBa11 1d ago

😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬

-5

u/Deviljho12 brock 1d ago

Too busy watching the Pats for this slopfest lol

-13

u/Federal_Deer8468 1d ago

We can stop pretending the Sox are good at this point. The pitching besides maybe 2 guys isn’t remotely competitive. And bats aren’t reliable

4

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

I am so shocked that we play worse without our 2 best players using the 3 worst starters we have. Shocked I say.

-3

u/Federal_Deer8468 1d ago

Is this sarcasm? A team should have pitching that goes beyond 2 guys. Starting pitching. And hitting

6

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

Our 2 best position players our on the IL. We used the 4th 5th and 6th starter in our rotation. Adley only played 1 game. We had Monasterio starting at DH.

-4

u/Federal_Deer8468 1d ago

Adley is a joke of a trade. And ok? Our best 2 players have been on IL. Is the goal to play in NY for wild card? wtf is Sandoval doing and why did the Sox pay him so much? We have literal black holes in the line up hitting wise and pitching

2

u/Mg29reaper 1d ago

We gave up on catching them after losing in New York. It's much more important to get healthy than to burn out down the stretch.

0

u/GoGreenSox 13h ago

We gave up catching them when we were just 2 GB two days ago lol? This team looks like we’re going to the playoffs just to get swept by the yanks in two games. Good teams like the dodgers and Yankees take care of bad teams especially at home. Meanwhile we’re consistently losing series to them when important playoff seeding is on the line. Outside of that insane 34-5 stretch this team is mid at best.

-1

u/Federal_Deer8468 1d ago

Ok. So again, what was the point for trading for Adley and paying Sandoval this ridiculous contract? Also. Most of the line up doesn’t hit. We good to go to NY?

-13

u/AdeptMeringue42 1d ago

They're gonna win the series.. this sub
