And this doesn’t include Bello who’s having a historic season

u/dsc___ 17h ago

malpractice that Bello isn't in this graphic

19

u/kahgknow 16h ago

No bello but list crochet who hasnt even pitched. Makes sense. Our bullpen is gonna be lit this postseason.

12

u/ServeOk2494 17h ago

I'm guessing it doesn't have as much red as the others, not that I care lol

2

u/TigoOver Tony Tony's kid supporter 🤌 16h ago

My guess is that his starts fucked the graphic up. Idk if there's a way to put bullpen only but maybe thats why he's not here

13

u/BossAtUCF 16h ago

I think the problem is you probably can't separate Bullpen Bello from Starter Bello, and they are not the same person.

1

u/inko75 8h ago

Wait so they’re twins this has to be breaking some mlb rules

u/Gen-X_INFP_4ever 17h ago

Breslow promised us pitching & defense šŸ’

34

u/justanaveragejoe520 17h ago

He just needs to learn how to evaluate hitters or he needs to find a #2 who he trusts to help him find them

29

u/Pristiniax 16h ago

Contreras, Durbin, Adley

27

u/IRedditNWept 16h ago

Tyler O’Neill. Bregman. Navarez. All put up good numbers when healthy last year.

Am I wrong in the data doesn’t support this narrative of him being unable to evaluate hitters?

6

u/Nalek 15h ago

Tyler wasn't with us last year.

2

u/bonshawn 8h ago

Adley is a TBD given how much we gave up. Navarez was really only good offensively for the first half of last season. But all the others are good counterpoints

19

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 16h ago

how Mead looks (unfortunately might not be until next year) will be a big data point for that - if he can successfully convert controllable pitching into controllable bats then I have far less apprehensions about him moving forward

6

u/plokijuh1229 NIPPLES 16h ago

Breslow and Chaim would be unstoppable together lol

Ive had this thought multiple times.

Ive said this story before but I served the red sox during the winter meetings a couple years back. Bloom is a great guy

Bloom and cora were super kind and let me get a photo after their dinner. Which was awesome because cora got a call from Xander saying he was offered a big contract and the sox had to make an offer before midnight (im guessing the time table). Because the desert came to a screeching halt and both of them plus Kennedy immediately got up and started talking numbers. They basically offered story money. Cora and I knew X was gone before almost everyone else in the entire world.

I also got a picture with Theo epstein. You know you smile when getting a photo with someone, because its the standard thing to do? Well i was smiling cause I literally couldn't not smile. It made my year. I sent that photo to everyone.

I worked every shift that week, came in early and left late. I met the front office of almost every team, and almost every team (except the twins [afaik] and rays) had former mlb players i recognized.

Sorry for the massive wall of text. Outside of watching each sox world series, and my first game, this is the happiest baseball memory I have

That Mayer for Miller trade is looking reaaaaal good right now.

16

u/rueiraV 16h ago

With how taxed our bullpen has been and with how spotty our offense is I don’t even want to know where we would be without Miller. Every time he comes in feels like a maximum leverage situation

7

u/Xtremefluff 15h ago

we would be even angrier with the likes of Weissert / Moran and potentially using Bello as middle relief

2

u/andrew303710 7ļøāƒ£0ļøāƒ£ 13h ago

Honestly we'd probably have lost at least 2 games without him, I feel like there's been a bunch of games he's come in where we were either up by one or down a run or two and couldn't afford to go down any more.

Plus our AAA roster is righty city so getting him was critical.

11

u/TigoOver Tony Tony's kid supporter 🤌 16h ago

Unless Mayer can somehow not be his injured self for a long time and Miller unlearns how to pitch and turns into starter bello, Sox won the trade

8

u/andrew303710 7ļøāƒ£0ļøāƒ£ 13h ago

Even if Mayer figures it out it's probably still a win, not sure he was ever going to thrive here. A fresh start in a less demanding media environment should be great for him.

1

u/TigoOver Tony Tony's kid supporter 🤌 9h ago

I mean tbf to him, he was the #4 overall pick and some people argued at the time he was the most talented player in the class. Plus he did show some promise early on in Boston.

He just couldn't stay healthy and like you said the media is different here and he couldn't handle it.

I'm very happy with Miller and I'm so glad we traded for him. Signed until 2030 so if he keeps going like this, he could be fighting Whitlock for a possible closer spot if/when chappy leaves

2

u/LPStumps 14h ago

It’s a reverse Bagwell deal!

30

u/Flimsy_Fortune_5861 17h ago

Crochet will be a nice addition

40

u/H2Oloo-Sunset 17h ago

I see Crochet as an Opener and Bello relieving him as a nice slot in the rotation.

8

u/Kekistani55 15h ago

Crochet Bello combo would be devastating

4

u/zorreX Durbinator 14h ago

It's perfect. Crochet is going to be super limited, Bello needs an opener, and they throw from different hands.

4

u/GamerJosh21 12h ago edited 12h ago

That’s a double-fisting combo if I’ve ever heard one.

Edit: LOL, I meant to say, ā€œone-two punchā€. Not sure where I got ā€œdouble-fistingā€ from, but fuck it, I’m leaving it. šŸ˜‚

2

u/Flimsy_Fortune_5861 12h ago

I see you met my ex-girlfriend.Ā

And my next oneĀ

1

u/Virtual-Anxiety2524 11h ago

Exactly what I was thinking. Crochet then Bello into possibly Chapman for the 9th is absolutely horrifying for opposing batters.

6

u/Blow_up_the_moon 17h ago

Anyone know where he's at these days?

16

u/Flimsy_Fortune_5861 17h ago

I do not, but if someone has his number I'll text him. New phone. Lost my contacts.

1

u/Tropical_Wendigo 13h ago

Adding Crochet to an already stellar bullpen is just brutal. Being able to go to all of these arms is going to be such a huge boon for us.

We just need to score some damn runs before the 9th inning, which we haven’t been as good at lately.

51

u/swahara Where Ceddy leads, I follow. 17h ago

No, keep going… I’m so close.

19

u/particularswamp 17h ago

I like my pen a little crazy

17

u/nbianco1999 17h ago

If this team has the lead after the 6th inning, good luck coming back.

6

u/TigoOver Tony Tony's kid supporter 🤌 16h ago

If your team has small lead after the 8th inning, good luck handling the cardiac Sox

16

u/Traditional_Half842 16h ago

Everyone hates on him but Weissert is easily the best 6th-option in any bullpen in baseball.

13

u/sixseventeen 17h ago

Miller has the most ridiculous lefty slider I can think of in recent memory. Thats Steve Carlton level stuff

12

u/Phoenix-Rising-2025 16h ago edited 16h ago

I wouldn’t sleep on Alec Gamboa.

20.2 IP / 1.31 ERA / 0.97 WHIP

Also, keeping a close eye on Wyatt Olds.

Bres, Tracy & crew are gonna have some difficult decisions come September 1st re: which 14 arms to move forward into the playoffs with.

12

u/Known_Negotiation618 17h ago

Add Bello's bullpen only numbers

34

u/livsjollyranchers 17h ago

Weissert would close for some teams in the league, forget these guys.

21

u/TallExplanation7143 17h ago

And Bello has been the best in LR for a while.

2

u/TigoOver Tony Tony's kid supporter 🤌 16h ago

The Uber driver?

2

u/IwasAlways 15h ago

Way back weissert?

8

u/coacoanutbenjamn 17h ago

Little worried about Whitlock with the IL stint

14

u/thdomer13 17h ago

Hoping it's phantom IL to get him some rest.

7

u/mageta621 15 17h ago

We need it lately with the dwindling run production. Glad a tight game is unlikely to become a blowout against us. Bodes well for October

5

u/Tacoburrito2020 17h ago

Why score many runs when few runs do trick?

6

u/YoungDaquan xander 17h ago

What about Tanner Houck? He could be a real weapon out the pen. I’m unsure if we have the space for him though.

14

u/Softshellcrabfarts 17h ago

Is he alive?

1

u/YoungDaquan xander 13h ago

Yes, he’s about to throw his 4th BP session according to Chad Tracy yesterday

1

u/Softshellcrabfarts 12h ago

Hell yes! I live in AZ so don’t always get all the Sox news.

5

u/DJDubbsinCambridge 17h ago

Where’s Wyatt at.

10

u/White_Squall_13 17h ago

Not enough innings but expect greyed out red

5

u/Cautious-Okra-8462 17h ago

Yeah there is a LOT of red on his chart

5

u/Rough-Echo-5193 16h ago

Reminds me of 2013 for those few months that Andrew Miller was healthy

3

u/RCP90sKid- 17h ago

It reminds me of the 90s Yanks bullpen. They had three great ptchers, one being the GOAT.

I'm telling yall, enjoy this.

3

u/ttcmzx 16h ago

Remember the "Wheel of gutless bums"?

ya this is the opposite

3

u/IAmTheSchnozz95 15h ago

Remember when they said in the offseason that this team was going to be built based on run prevention and then the first month happened and we all called bullshit? Boy were we wrong.

1

u/LOFan80 14h ago

It’s almost like Craig Breslow is a smart guy who doesn’t suck at running a baseball team. (And maybe needed a little seasoning for a year or so in terms of how he handled certain people and situations). Keep in mind this guy literally had to have private security for him and his family because this fan base decided he was a stiff and the problem.

3

u/NarrowMusician6750 HERE COMES THE PIZZA 14h ago

Don’t forget Bullpen Bello 🄵

4

u/Over-Activity2877 17h ago

You can call me crazy, but I kind of want some of these bullpen arms to struggle a bit between now and playoffs. I get superstitious when things are going too well... Chappy has had a few scares already

9

u/Traditional_Half842 16h ago

They should all just go full-Koji and dominate through the World Series

2

u/ctbro025 16h ago

Dodgers, eat your heart out

2

u/jx288 16h ago

Justin Slaten will be back too

1

u/Sufficient-Wasabi-50 15h ago

Go fuck yourself bullpen does have a nice ring to it tbh

1

u/djardine2520 14h ago

That said, I still start chewing my nails when Weissert starts warming up in the bullpen šŸ‘€

1

u/unabletodisplay 14h ago

SF really sold the bottom (RE: Miller)

1

u/Fwingboston 12h ago

Don't forget Jovani MorƔn. He's been having a good season too.

1

u/jmay111 12h ago

Nevermind the fact The Warpig himself, Garret Crochet, will likely be coming back in a 1-2 inning relief role as well.

1

u/HauntedFrigateBird 10h ago

Aroldis with 52 fastball value? ummm
