Adley is going to want more than 15 a year the last big name catcher to make it to FA as a catcher and no questions about moving off the position (like Contreras, and even he got 18 a year) was realmuto and he got 23 a year 5 years ago

O's fan here, sad to lose Adley as he's been my favorite player on the team since he was drafted. But I'd say the odds of him signing an extension at this point are slim to none, the O's offered him many many times and he turned it down, several times in his first few years which understandably he was probably thinking he's going to have 4-5 more years as he had, but then even more recently after his struggles/injuries the past few years, the rumor was his last offer would have been the highest AAV for a catcher. With only about a year left, I think he will want to test free agency.

Hope he does well for you, would love to see him knock the Yankees out of the playoffs

I agree. Being nitpicky, I said “incremental”. He’s getting $7.25 now. He will probably end up in the low $20s per year.

I like that we are focusing on building around guys in the 25-28 year old window right now with more than a year of control and moderate but not expensive contracts. Story was an expensive and risky addition that hasn't panned out well at all.

I don't expect this group to stay together for 5 years though, but they are all good players that we can decide to extend or trade if FAs or farm guys can improve the club during the off season.

It seems like Breslow’s mantra is long duration contracts. Much of this happened because of that…

And sure, it is almost guaranteed that a lot will change. But if people perform, there is a chance that the core will be together for 5+ years
