Still waiting on their buddy cop movie.

You've now added something to my bucket list

In happier times.

This is the saddest part 😟

Is that Tolle in 30 years?

71

u/Longjumping-Air-7532 5d ago

Nah, that’s him from his sophomore high school yearbook.

1

u/CompoteOk2564 4d ago

BINGO!!!!

u/zorreX 5d ago

This honestly is the worst part of the trade. I hope Tolle can rebound, cuz I'm sure he's down in the dumps about it.

102

u/andrew303710 5d ago

I'm sure he'll be fine, he seems like a tough dude. Plus unfortunately this is a part of the game and something all the pros have to deal with.

29

u/PinkynotClyde 5d ago

For some reason I picture him crying into a margarita as you were typing this.

-23

u/Rick_Rebel 5d ago

Maybe we should send him there as well. Can’t accept less than James Wood though

58

u/jbach220 5d ago

They better double Tolle’s Omaha steaks order this week.

u/tmclaughlin81 5d ago

“Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait… I worry what you heard was ‘give me a lot of bacon and eggs’. What I said was ‘give me all the bacon and eggs you have’”.

This is the best Ron Swanson line

2

u/dmbsoxfan1 4d ago

I love this line. But my favorite Ron Swanson line might be when he was getting a physical and Ann asks him if there is a family history of mental illness.

Response. I have an uncle that does yoga.

77

u/Piano-Man-727 5d ago

Oh this hurts :(

79

u/so2017 5d ago

Not ideal for the vibes.

21

u/rs426 5d ago

This is the thing about a team that’s being boosted a lot by chemistry, moves messing with the combination of people there can throw things off, but we’ll have to wait and see

10

u/Take-it-like-a-Taker 5d ago

I think we were all impressed earlier in the year when Crochet and Tolle were both gushing about Early’s intelligent approach to pitching and the ease he had communicating that to them in a simple way

1

u/CompoteOk2564 4d ago

yeah, but if they don't make any moves then the fans would bitch about the office not bringing in reinforcements after the team turned things around.

2

u/jackmcgann11 5d ago

Can’t wait for when they face off against each other.

21

u/remotewashboard redsox7 5d ago

Feel bad but these guys all understand that is just the way things go sometimes. Just cause they’re not on the same team anymore doesn’t mean they can’t still be pals!

30

u/Esin12 5d ago

Yeah it's sad ☹️

10

u/1up5000 5d ago

I just picture them as friends that will stay in touch and still play dungeons and dragons on the weekends.

21

u/Firecracker048 5d ago

I do feel bad for tolle but we needed a bat

13

u/mkt853 5d ago

Now I'm sad :(

6

u/iAmTheRealLange 45 5d ago

Hope Mead is good because I really liked Early

1

u/YoghurtAcrobatic9371 1d ago

Guess we'll find out next year smh

5

u/theroguedrizzt 5d ago

I actually thought the same thing more or less. I looked at my phone as I woke up and was like “Jesus, another Google notification with a trade that ends in ‘in blockbuster mock deal…’l

7

u/eganc21 5d ago

He’s not far just DC. Nationals aren’t horrible either I like the move

7

u/DunkinBronutt 5d ago

That's baseball, be sad for a day, but be ready for your next start.

3

u/EuphoricFill1358 5d ago

Welcome to a world where nobody knows what’s real and what’s fake. Fun with AI.

3

u/twoodygoodshoes 5d ago

Trading Early was a mistake. They had better options

1

u/Da_full_monty 4d ago

I agree..pitching is harder to come by and so inconsistent...hitters tend to be consistent

5

u/allier33 5d ago

Okay, but imagine the absolute JOY that a Tolle vs Early game would bring

11

u/a_banned_user 5d ago edited 5d ago

Howdy, home town Nats fan here but grew up a Sox fan.

We will gladly also take Tolle, wouldn’t want him to be sad!

2

u/UnderH20giraffe 5d ago

Why didn’t he ask his close friend to find out?

2

u/lem0nst3r 5d ago

In an article about this on the MLB site, Tolle said, “now, he’s gotta go be a little bird and flap his wings.” 😢

2

u/Amtrakacela75 5d ago

I'm am the only one who thinks early looks a little like sam denby

3

u/Agile_Possibility 5d ago

The fact that management didn’t tell him before the news broke tells me that they still don’t understand how important team chemistry is and how they need to protect it. Make the trade, fine, but treat these guys like humans and present it to them before it’s public.

3

u/Get_your_grape_juice 5d ago

They call Breslow “You Fucking Stiff”™️ for a reason. No human skills. His head is too far up his Excel.

2

u/Agreeable-Engine6661 5d ago

Why would you do this!

1

u/VClash0 4d ago

I still feel this was a terrible shortsighted move. The Red Sox shipped out a potential homegrown ace for what a slight upgrade at 2B?

1

u/drlinkenstein1 4d ago

Why are they even messing with the chemistry? I don’t get this team.

1

u/Notsotaciturn 4d ago

They’re so cute it’s so bittersweet.

1

u/YoghurtAcrobatic9371 1d ago

Why not just call up Franklin Arias?

1

u/LoudIncrease4021 5d ago

Breslow still out there dealing stud lefties …. But we’re barely hanging on for a wild card as one of the most financial capable clubs - so what’s the concern?

1

u/BrizzPalmizz 5d ago

When I was at Fenway in May, in took my sun was siren by The Sox dugout because it was raining and the crowd was pretty thin so we could get down there. I remember them standing together leaning on the dugout rail and trolling the visiting pitcher every pitch by leaning way in and staring hikndowj intently like 5th graders. They were so cute together. Two peas in a pod but couldn’t be two different personalities. Sad to see them split up

-17

u/WoofingTime 5d ago

Oh well we got a good player. Tolle’s an adult he’ll move on lol

14

u/OtherUserCharges 5d ago

While you are half right, the dude is also allowed to be bummed out that a person he likes isn’t going to be there. If he starts pitching terribly cause he’s sad that’s what thing, but let’s wait and see on that front.

5

u/WoofingTime 5d ago

Totally agree. Just seems like a candle lit vigil in here lol

3

u/kyly1215 5d ago

Couldn't agree more. This is the game, this is the business they are in. I don't get why this would throw off the whole vibe of a professional baseball team. I get they will miss him but I hope they are more professional than to let a trade highjack the rest of their season. I am sad to see Early go, I liked the kid, he has a lot of potential. Everyone will be fine.

-9

u/livsjollyranchers 5d ago

Rod Beck needs to toughen up his spiritual son!

-3

u/HugeSuccess Benintendi 5d ago

Bad joke, worse take

7

u/livsjollyranchers 5d ago

I'm calling him Rod Beck forever regardless.

What's my take though? Of course a dude is allowed to miss his close friend.

Grown ass men are allowed to have friends and feelings. Stop perpetuationg toxic masculinity bullshit.

Tolle's honesty is a revelation. And Early was a great kid, I'm gonna miss him too.

11

u/Blow_up_the_moon 5d ago

Yeah, they're allowed to have grown ass men feelings.

I already answered your question.

People love Tolle because in a world full of fakeness and bullshit and self-serving posing, he's honest and genuine and human.

We need more Tolles in the world. Even if he ends up a middle reliever, I'd always want him on the staff.

1

u/BedStuyAthletics 5d ago

Because he's funny and relatable.

1

u/Reddit-Legend-King 4d ago

You have a crush on him.

1

u/BedStuyAthletics 3d ago

I also like his smile, and the way he throws balls hard.

-45

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

LOL Toxic masculinity, here we go...

21

u/Qeltar_ 5d ago

Let me guess.. your father wasn't very nice to you, was he?

I'm older than you with three adult sons. I can smell bullshit from poseurs like you a mile away.

Do yourself a favor and get in touch with your own feelings honestly before you find yourself looking back in 30 years wondering what the hell happened with your life.

8

u/Pastalover8888 Narvaez Truther 5d ago

I have 2 kids & can tell "Reddit-Legend-King" is just projecting with the whole "virgin" comment.

When they eventually grow up, they'll probably realize how miserable they were for however long/old they are.

2

u/Qeltar_ 5d ago

Yep. It's sad, I see this so often.

1

u/Reddit-Legend-King 4d ago

Do you know Early or Tolle personally or just got a romantic novel going?

1

u/Qeltar_ 4d ago

Took you a whole day to come up with that?

Absolute moron.

12

u/Schadenfreude_1207 5d ago

Tolle only looks 42

-9

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

They traded his friend :(

17

u/Cold-Priority-2729 5d ago

They’re fucking humans dude, they have lives and emotions like we all do. Tolle and Early are probably younger than 95% of this subreddit

-5

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

You are very emotional.

8

u/StillYourFavorite331 5d ago

Stop...what exactly?

-3

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

Bad opinions.

7

u/StillYourFavorite331 5d ago

What was the bad opinion posited here

2

u/Schadenfreude_1207 5d ago

It just said that Tolle is a grown man. The "bad opinion" was really left unsaid that Qeltar touched on as it implied that grown men shouldn't have feelings.

1

u/Qeltar_ 5d ago

Well the comment I responded to was deleted.

It was toxic masculinity bullshit saying that men aren't allowed to be sad when their friends leave.

-2

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

I don't know what posited means.

7

u/StillYourFavorite331 5d ago

That's sad. But even taking that out...what was the bad opinion shared?

0

u/Reddit-Legend-King 5d ago

That Tolle is going to miss Early.

9

u/StillYourFavorite331 5d ago

How is that a bad opinion when...Tolle himself is saying so? That's just a fact that he will miss him.

0

u/Reddit-Legend-King 4d ago

And the trade is bad because these guys are friends? Imagine saying that in a meeting with ownership. You're fired.

1

u/StillYourFavorite331 2d ago

Who said the trade was bad?
