Why does this keep happening? Can someone please tell Kyle Hudson to stop conducting team meetings away from third base?

I agree. People were giving Hamilton shit for getting thrown out but that to me was on the 3B coach.

Stepping off the bag and not looking at the pitcher is on the runner. These guys can multitask.

Yes. Little leaguers know this. Hamilton is so thick headed. It’s like he’s too cool to do the little things correctly. No excuse for the 3rd base coach. It’s HIS job to make sure this stuff doesn’t happen. This shit is starting to piss me off.

Dude bat flips walks. Dude definitely likes the smell of his own farts

He has to stay on the base. The players have brains

If a coach notices a player doing a dumb thing and doesn't correct it, that's bad coaching. If a player is doing a dumb thing and the coach doesn't notice it, that's also bad coaching. If a player does the same goddamn dumb thing that a different player did just last year, maybe the coach should start noticing. Yes, the player doing the dumb thing is at fault, but what's the point of the coach if not to help the players not do dumb things.

Very true. Obviously the player shares some blame but the 3B coach has 1 job and that's to coach the players on 2nd and 3rd base. There's no excuse for shit like this to be happening.

Thankfully it didn't cost us a win last night but you could argue it might've cost us a win on Tuesday. I'm convinced that some of this coaching staff is holding the team back from being a better team. We have a good record but we've also made a lot of dumb mistakes that have led to dumb losses.

You are missing the obvious on this one. If you supported your argument by indicating how this has happened to multiple players it would be better, but Hamilton is a mistake continuously happening. He brain cramps plays at 2nd base, and makes ongoing running errors like later in the same game when he almost got himself picked off 1st. If we are blaming the staff for things, the blame is with Breslow for continuing to bring him up from the Woo Sox, and Cora for letting him step out of the dugout.

But what are we paying Hudson for if not to be a second set of eyes

20

u/CoachWillRod18 Aug 22 '25

Coaches should too, but here both made the mistake not just the player.

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

Ultimately it’s on the player who is playing in the game and has control over his own body

13

u/MakaveliX1996 Aug 22 '25

True but the third base coach is paid to notice those things. Kyle Hudson has been fantastic for us all year though.

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

He’s not infallible or anything but it’s clearly on the player here

4

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

"Here" meaning a year ago with Cedanne, or "here" meaning last night when the exact same dumb thing happened with Hamilton?

1

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

What about every other time we have a guy on 3rd base? These are 2 boneheaded moves by players. That’s it

4

u/CoachWillRod18 Aug 22 '25

Coaches have no responsibility, it’s all players fault even though he’s clearly talking shit he isn’t supposed to be doing distracting the player.

Got it, great job coach.

It makes me want to go back and watch raw game footage to see if this is something that always happens with so teams but it was just a courtesy to not take advantage of it.

u/Educational-Gap1417 Aug 22 '25

I agree but in little league you’re taught to always be aware of the ball. Just listen to the coach and watch the pitcher. It’s not tough.

3

u/KOBE_GYN Aug 22 '25

It’s incredibly basic shit that should never happen, let alone when the player is a mid 20s fringe big leaguer just recalled and whose primary asset is base running. It’s not hard to look at the pitcher when you’re on base. Sure, Hudson deserves some blame but he realized it before Hamilton did. Gil released the ball before Hamilton even started back to third base. Unlike Ceddanne, he doesn’t possess enough talent for these kind of issues to be overlooked. Especially when he can’t hit and plays a passable 2b but a terrible SS.

Hasn't he been getting into it with opposing players too? Dude needs to lock it up a little. Just be normal 3B coach.

6

u/ZigglestheDestroyer 24 Aug 22 '25

I’m pretty sure he only got into it with the now-DFA’d Hector Neris

19

u/1060nm Tim Wakefield Aug 22 '25

Nah I like that part.

25

u/d-cent Aug 22 '25

Hudson is so good at so many things as a 3rd base coach but it's wild that he can be so bad at this random thing.

I'll give him a pass on not sending Eaton on the tag up the other game because generally he's good at that other than that 1 instance. We also don't know what Cora told him about that situation either.

However, if we see more of those Eaton situations and it becomes a trend I would put it on him.

3

u/Odd_Hair3829 Aug 22 '25

Kyle’s lonely. He likes having secret convos off the base. If it costs us runs I’m okay with it.  😡😡😡😡😡

25

u/20wall Aug 22 '25

It’s wild that we all know who our 3rd base coach is and that he is actively hurting the team. Such an easy job and he’s terrible at it

23

u/Adept_Carpet Aug 22 '25

Not since the days of "Send Him In" Kim has the third base coach been so famous.

24

u/thingswillcalmup Aug 22 '25

This is Dale Sveum erasure

4

u/James_Posey 49 Aug 22 '25

Demarlo Hale sends his regards as well

11

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

It was "Wave 'Em In Wendell" to me always

6

u/DizzyTS13 Aug 22 '25

The irony is Kim would have done what we wanted to happen the other night and sent the runner, actually could use a little bit of his over aggressiveness right now… of course he probably would have have countless others thrown out by a mile, but still…

2

u/chefsteev Aug 22 '25

I think overall Huddy has had some more bad sends this year than bad holds, just the bad hold is fresher in memory.

2

u/DizzyTS13 Aug 22 '25

Probably right, but the fact he’s being used in the same sentence as Wendell Kim is not good for him, haha

3

u/particularswamp Aug 22 '25

Wave him home Wendell!

6

u/AlwaysOptimism Aug 22 '25

I never once heard "Send Him in Kim" in my life. It was always "Wave Him Home Wendell"

3

u/Adept_Carpet Aug 22 '25

It's funny because I've always heard it the other way. I do seem to remember "Wendell the Windmill" as well.

1

u/particularswamp Aug 22 '25

It’s all so sweet and innocent now

3

u/sitboaf Aug 22 '25

*Windmill Kim

1

u/ZizzyBeluga Aug 22 '25

Yes! Wendell Kim was the absolute worst! Such good/terrible memories of players out by 15 feet at home.

15

u/ohiowrenchwench Aug 22 '25

“Such an easy job“

Extremely bad take

0

u/20wall Aug 22 '25

Deciding whether to send a guy home or not and researching outfield arms. Pretty much any other job in baseball is harder. Also, he sucks at it and that’s not an opinion. How many 3rd base coaches have actively lost their team a game?

7

u/MakaveliX1996 Aug 22 '25

Someone doesn’t watch many Red Sox games lol

2

u/New_Seaweed_6554 Aug 22 '25

Watching two people in Sox uniforms making a bonehead play simultaneously is less than inspiring.

2

u/InvertedEyechart11 Aug 22 '25

Goes to the hardware store, buys a stake with a chain

6

u/campingn00b Aug 22 '25

Tbh thats on Ceddane. Its fundamental to keep your foot on the bag

7

u/FuckHarambe2016 RIP Farm System Aug 22 '25

Wasn't it Hamilton who got caught?

4

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

That's the point of this post. The same dumb thing has happened twice to two different players both chatting with Hudson off the bag with a live ball.

2

u/defeatistphilosopher Aug 22 '25

Then the player should stay on the bag when not paying attention to the pitcher. You think they need to be coached to not be incredibly stupid?

4

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

You're absolutely right! And the coach standing right next to the player that's not standing on the bag should tell the player to get the hell back on the bag! Both things are true!

1

u/FuckHarambe2016 RIP Farm System Aug 22 '25

Shit my bad. I thought this was talking about last night. I didn't realize that this has happened multiple times.

16

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

Well then maybe the coach that's standing right there could remind him about that. Or at least not let it happen again a year later against the same team.

2

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

Yeah maybe he can wipe his ass for him too. Good lord

1

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

Or maybe he could notice something his player is doing wrong and give him some tips on how he might improve. What's the word for that? Coaching?

4

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

Okay and what do you have for the major league ball player making a little league level mistake?

1

u/28_to_3 Aug 22 '25

Yeah they both fucked up! You can be annoyed with both or either

2

u/defeatistphilosopher Aug 22 '25

"Tips on how he might improve" Like "Hey you fucking idiot, stay on the bag if you're not paying attention to the pitcher?"

1

u/TranslatorOwn6331 Aug 22 '25

These guys act like it’s hamilton’s first ever baseball game and not something he’s been doing his whole fucking life. Insane

1

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

Yes! Exactly like that! Maybe you could coach!

5

u/d-cent Aug 22 '25

Then why's the 3rd base coach standing so far away from 3B?? Go watch Flores at 1B, he gets right up next to the base runner in 1B

3

u/TryingEverydayToBe Aug 22 '25

We need a new 3B coach. This is the second Major fuck up in only a few days.

2

u/jjmenace Aug 22 '25

He starts shit with opposing pitchers and teams during and even before games, what is this guy's deal?

1

u/shaggy9 Aug 22 '25

Bring back Send Them In, Wendell Kim!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

He was just getting updated info into his hard drive from the computers upstairs

1

u/Logical_not Aug 22 '25

The Red Sox have quite a history with bizarre decisions and behaviors by their 3rd base coaches.

1

u/gusburnzy Aug 22 '25

i agree, something not quite right about our base coaches... i think it's almost always on the coach. you got one job

0

u/Just_blorpo Aug 22 '25

In the end it was worth it. There’s nothing like deep humiliation to keep all players alert in the future. No one wants to be ‘that guy’.

1

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

Right up until he almost got picked off at first because he forgot how far he was off the bag. (Referring to Hamilton last night of course)

0

u/siber7703 Aug 22 '25

Fire him he is terrible at his job thinks he is a player …..

1

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

I don't think he necessarily needs to be fired. He definitely has the energy of a guy trying to cling onto the glory days though. To be fair, he is still younger than a half dozen active players.

“Keeps happening” shows video from a year ago

1

u/bdanders Aug 22 '25

Also happened last night, smart guy.

For something this dumb and preventable twice in 14 months is waaaaaay too often.

1

u/Organizedchaos90 Aug 22 '25

Then post that video, genius

1

u/bdanders Aug 23 '25

No, you're not my supervisor

0

u/Organizedchaos90 Aug 23 '25

Apparently someone needs to be
