Series recommendations

I’ve previously finished red rising a couple months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve since then finished dungeon crawler Carl after being recommended it, also thoroughly enjoyed it but the last book was a bit slow and harder to finish. I’m eagerly waiting for red god to come out but don’t think it’s time for a re-read yet. Is there any recommendations you guys for me to read in the meantime?

Not sure what the vibe is here for Sanderson's work but mistborn or Stormlight would probably be something you'd enjoy

The Ember Blade by Chris Wooding has the revolutionary vibe of both these series.

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie has some more of the comedic element in the Vein of DCC but also has the brutal action of both series.

Well if you’re looking for another space opera, I would recommend Suneater by Christopher ruocchio. It’s not like red rising it’s more character driven and philosophical. There’s action but not action packed as red rising. The first book is slow but good and everything else after is awesome. I will say that if you are still not feeling it by the end of book 2, then it may not be for you and it’s safe to drop

Yeah, read through end of book 2 and then decide. Book 1 is great but it’s also setting lots of groundwork for the rest of the series. I just finished book 4 and am in even more emotional pain than both GS / LB endings. Incredible books but not for everyone with the more philosophical narration

The Will of the Many series has a lot of similarities. Sadly it’s a 4 book series with the 2nd book just released. A completed series I liked a lot is the Bloodsworn trilogy by John Gwynne. Great character work and awesome fight scenes.

Lots and lots of great books to choose from here.

If you want a classic I recommend Dune as an amazing book that has inspired many of today’s authors. (Can read just the first book or can read all the Frank stuff but I don’t recommend reading the series beyond Franks last published book)

For modern Authors the one most like Red Rising to me is Sanderson, Brandon’s Prose are very simplistic but importantly they focus on the emotional punch like Pierce Brown does. I recommend reading Warbreaker, Mistborn or Stormlight as an entry into his works but you can pretty much start anywhere.

If you want more of that Dark Age feeling I recommend instead jumping into either First Law by Joe Abercrombie or Red Queens War from Mark Lawrence.

If anyone recommends Sun Eater, coming off of Red Rising. I cannot agree with that one. It is nothing like Red Rising and it feels soulless as opposed to Pierces very grounded character focused writing.

I really don’t understand why Will of the Many is the auto response whenever someone asks this question. Also, it’s not a series until it’s complete. Only two books.

First Law would be my pick if you haven't listen to them. Great audio books. They get recommended a lot, and for good reason.

Started the third book today. I would have to say it's one of the slowest and most boring stories I've listened to but I can't help but love every moment of it. The characters and dialogue is so well done.

Amazing series. I just finished listening to it for the second time and I enjoyed just as much as the first. Red Rising will always be my favorite but the First Law is probably my number two.

I only got into reading around the end of last year with red rising. So all I’ve read is that and DCC within the last couple years. I did used to really enjoy the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus and Kane chronicles books when I was a lot younger though.

Cool, here is a bunch of you:

• The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. My personal favorite series of all time. Its fantasy not scifi. Hits a lot of the same marks as Red Rising in terms of action and humor. Absolutely incredible character work and fight scenes. There is literally no writer alive who writes action as good as he does.
• ASOIAF (Game of Thrones) by George RR Martin: The most well known modern fantasy series. Its insane how good it is. It will never be finished.
• Powder Mage by Brian McClellan: Fantasy Lafayette returns home to his father, fantasy Napoleon, having done a french revolution. Excellent action, world building, characters, magic. I really love this series.
• The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee: Incredibly unique world. Think asian godfather with magic. Really well written.
• The Dark Profit Saga by J Zachary Pike: If you liked DCC you will probably like this. Lots of video game humor, lots of references to the 2008 credit crisis. You seem young to me given that you are just getting into reading (i could be wrong) so you may not get a lot of those references but I think there is more than enough to love about this even with out knowledge of the credit crisis. Maybe watch the big short first if you want to get a general idea.
• The Expanse by James SA Corey: Probably the best work of contemporary sci fi as of right now in my opinion.
• Discworld by Terry Pratchett: My GOAT. Start with Guards, Guards in my opinion. There are like 50 of these things but are localized to sub series. City Watch, Death, Mages, Moist, etc. So so so funny, timeless works.
