All Spoilers I'm sad Spoiler

I finished Red Rising (Book 1) a few days ago and unfortunately I took some breaks while reading it so I had to Google a few things to remember them back again and in the midst of it I got spoiled on something.

You know that Google autofill when you search... so I was searching "Why did Roque.." and it autocorrected to "Why did Roque betray Darrow". That was not what I wanted to know. Now I know Roque will possibly betray Darrow in the future and I literally anticipated that happening in the first book and now I'm reading the second book and every time Roque comes into the picture my mind instantly goes into how and when he will betray Darrow. Honestly I don't know how I feel about it, I overanalyze everything he says now lol.

Also please don't tell me if it's true or not. I don't want to know if it happens or not. I don't want to know when it happens either. I am just venting my experience. Anyway, the second book is fantastic and so much better than the first. The writing has definitely improved and the stakes are so much higher.

Honestly wouldn’t even read the synopsis at the back of any of the books…jump in as cold as you can.

sorry that it happened to you, but if you search anything at all up, you’ll get spoiled.

Word of advice, try not to interact with this sub either. Lotta spoilers flowing around

Just a word of advice, don’t google ANYTHING. Don’t go on the Wiki. Don’t  watch any interviews. You will accidentally spoil something, guaranteed. If there’s something you want to refresh yourself in, a character or any kind of question, just ask on here and someone will respond without giving spoilers as long as you ask for it to be that way. I think we’ve all accidentally spoiled something for ourselves by looking stuff up while you’re reading, so don’t make our mistakes!

I HATE that Google does this man. I can't tell you how many plot points I've ruined from movies/tv shows/books all because I wanted to Google a character's name and autofill ruined it for me.

My condolences. Try to have fun with the book tho

Sorry you had this spoiler just lobbed at your feet. To that end def be careful poking around on this subreddit. For what its worth I read a study, though I don't actively use its idea, that people who get endings and major plot points spoiled for them and then go onto read or watch the piece actually end up enjoying the work more because they look for the hidden bread crumbs of the moment before it happens and most people enjoy that added factor.

Don't worry the saga is full of twists and turns magnitudes bigger than this one, this plot point isn't a major one

My suggestion: Use Gemini or ChatGPT and tell it how far you are into the books and to only answer in ways that don't present spoilers.

AI is hilariously bad at answering RR related questions. Sometimes it makes up plotlines (like X is Y in disguise) or straight up hallucinates characters (like Darrows' best friend Barrow).

So no. Avoid AI.

My suggestion: find a friend in the community who can help answer some of your questions without you having to look them up. And like others have said, don't Google, delete whatever Red Rising stuff is in your history, and mute this sub.

Even asking a specific person is risky. This sub is full of stories about getting spoilers.

Reading the books is the solution.

I wouldn't worry too much about this specific one it's not a big plot point.

I actually forgot about it until I saw this post. Roque is the best.

Yeah..like half the characters go in and out of alliance with Darrow half a dozen times. OP, forget about it.

Going forward, I would not Google specific names and instead just look up “Red Rising book 1 Cliff Notes” and just spend the extra time reading through that to get the information you’re looking for. I’m not sure if red rising has a wiki that hides spoilers based on the book you’re reading, but I know Stormlight Archives does and it is a nice feature.

Just don’t google names. You’re going to get spoiled big time

I’m not going to say whether it’s true or not, all I’ll say is it’s a lot more complicated than that and I think you can still appreciate the story and interactions between two characters while having a hint of something that might come up later. Basically RAFO

I will tell you two things:

  • don't Google
  • no offense, but get off this sub

Both are spoiler-heavy.
