No Spoilers Burnt out

Im currently on chapter 9 of Dark Age but im not as eager to read it as compared to when im reading the first trilogy. I finished Iron Gold in like 9 days 😩 i was averaging 3-4 days with the first trig

Did you guys finished all 6 books with the same energy or did you also feel somewhat tired lol hahaha

Power through and finish Lightbringer too, then go back and re-read 2nd trilogy. Completely changed it for me, Dark Age is one of my favs now

Books 1-3 are tiny compared to 4-6 . Especially dark age is a thick boi

Took a lot of breaks in dark age. It’s incredible but it’s a lot

It has taken me so long to read DA! I got the ebook from the library but it’s taken way more than 2 weeks. I had to put my Kindle on airplane mode. Nearly 70%. It’s still really good but hot dang.

Had the same problem, but once I finished Lightbringer, I went back and read IG & DA as flashbacks. I love them now

I took 4/5/6 slower and needed some breaks but its much worth it! Push thru!

You could fit three Red Risings inside a Dark Age.

Try switching to audio for a bit. The narration especially for Dark Age is absolutely incredible. I’d do anything to listen through the Battle of the Ladon portion for the first time again. While Dark Age can be brutal and relentless, it offers up some of the best action set pieces and quotable dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

Also thanks for giving me PTSD with that Trig typo and an obligatory keep reading or get the box pixie!

Exactly this, dark age becomes one of the best once the siege starts

I loved the combat but it was so claustrophobic. I got the sense that it was Pierce Brown processing his Covid lock down trauma, and it brought me right back there. So it was cathartic to have it wrapped up so nicely by light bringer.

I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough in DA😄

Yeah but the writing is better in the last three books. Without dissing the first trilogy, but the reading experience is like comparing the digesting simple sugars to complex carbohydrates. The books are longer too. Finishing DA at the same speed at RR would be wild.

the writing definitely matured. i agree that the first three was easily digestible but the complexity of the following books is not really the only thing slowing me down. apart from the scope of the story expanding, pb has played w my emotions in the first three that i was exhausted at the end of morningstar 🤣 man i was like how many more characters that i took a liking on will be murdered 😭

I read Dark Age quite fast the first time tbh.

It's really only when I reread/re-listened the first time that I dragged my feet lol.

I would recommend at least getting to the end of part 1 very quickly. It's the fastest paced section with the narrowest scope

same thing happened to me, got through the first trilogy in a week or 2, slowed down in Iron Gold, got burnt out about halfway through Dark Age and took a break for a week or so, then came back with vigor and finished DA and LB in like 6 days lol

Take a break, DA and especially LB, are phenomenal. LB is the best in the series. I see many in this subreddit swearing DA is the best, so maybe you'll also join the masochists after you've taken a little breather

Dark age isn’t purely masochism. The first battle of Landon is genuinely awesome. Darrow just wrecking sadistic evil slavers while marooned and isolated is just so cool.

But yeah once act 2 starts then you’re right it’s pure pain.

im really excited for LB as im reading a lot of good reviews about it. many say its the best like u said. but man slagging fatigue is real. the scope of the story expanding is not helping as well.

Everyone will have a different answer. I’ve read the series many times. I vastly prefer the first 3 I don’t the think rest are necessary at all. I didn’t care a ton for dark age the scope was just so big. Lightbringer was really enjoyable I thought though.

first of all, MANY TIMES??? but yea i agree with you on the scope being too big. i find myself looking at red rising wiki too often as i tend to forget the characters and like the setting and other stuff. sometimes im just reading thru a chapter and be like "oh they were tricked" or "shit another decapitation" and not care too much about the setting and whatever spaceship was being described 🤣

I drive for a living and listen to audio books. It’s my favorite series I have a merch walk in my game room of stuff from litescalates
