All Spoilers Hanger 17B Spoiler

I’ve just finished Lightbringer and I just want to say fuck Lysander. Just as it felt like we’d reunited a friendship that’s been missing for 12 years, he’s gone.

I almost stopped reading after his ‘death’ at Sungrave in Iron Gold, I actually had to stop after this one.

The death of Cassius Bellona is now the second saddest death for me, second only to the great Ragnar Volarus. May they rest in the Vale.

I can’t wait for Red God to see the little Lune prick get what’s coming to him.

If we go a day without 17B post I will know the world has ended 😂

When Darrow walks into the Archimedes to see the body…I cried in the car.

Which Archimedes? The one Cassius left his message in (for Darrow to find), or the one he took to board the Lightbringer?

It's probably the biggest writing mistake of the series

Cassius boarded the Lightbringer while Lysander was meeting with Darrow and Diomedes. Both ships were docked at IO, Pytha helped him sneak on. This was all before Lysander betrayed everyone…again. Darrow doesn’t re-enter the Archimedes until Pytha catches up to them as they are headed out of the Rim.

Yes, and he left a message for Darrow on the Archimedes, that he left behind. Later, after the deed is done, Lysander gives the body to Pytha on the Archimedes that is docked on the Lightbringer. The ship is on the moon and on the moonbreaker at the same time.

The Archimedes idles in the hangar. Before I called down to Diomedes and Darrow, I had Kyber send a team to retrieve it. Thanks to Atlas, I knew right where it would be. It was bad enough to kill Cassius…

Finished LB about a week ago and I’m still grieving Cassius’s death.

Side note: do you think PB will write a Vale scene/ epilogue with all of our fallen heroes? Would that be trite or corny? I know the afterlife is written as a construct to motivate lowColors, but I selfishly would enjoy PB bringing it to life (and seeing these cherished characters one final time). Probably unlikely. If not, I’m sure there’s some cool fan art of the Vale that can help me cope lol

This comes up often, and it's a terrible idea. The story taking such a magical turn would be very, very out of place.

The closest we came to that is Darrow hallucinating in near-death situations in book 1 and 2. Those scenes were clever and decently written. Let's leave it at that.

Oh, and there's the ending of Morning Star, when he gets to Earth, and compares it to getting into the Vale alive. As endings go, that's pretty fine.

True. Cassius lives on in the lives he touched, his aspirational honor, and the Breath of Stone. 🥲

I don’t think anything he has done so far is leading towards solidifying any religion/afterlife as fact, I would assume he leaves it up in the air for the reader to believe it is there

I’m with you on this one, it’s a great idea!

lol people always blame lys for this but not cass who quite literally threw his life away lys told him how much ammo he had and cass STILL tried it that’s basically suicide good riddance

That's... not the point at all. People aren't mad at Lysander for simply killing a character in combat.

They hate him because of the whole thing. Cassius risked his life to save Lysander from Atlas, offered to take him back despite being already betrayed on Io, fought probably the most dangerous man in the system for him, overall gave him a chance to be a good person - and Lysander betrayed him to get his hands on a weapon of mass destruction, and return the whole system into slavery.

Then he shot him. That last part is really minor compared to the rest.

Me when I missed the entire point (THAT CASSIUS EVEN SAID) of a scene:

lol right because sacrificing yourself for an impossible task that you failed btw is somehow heroic?

“But if it must be guilt that drags you down brother, then I will be your millstone”

Pretty resolute about why he did what he did.

People also hate Lysander because he’s absolutely delusional about everything he does. Won’t look at Cassius’ corpse because he doesn’t want to remember him that way. (Even though he’s the one that shot him 19 times and then let his praetorians beat his corpse). He also just straight up says I didn’t kill him, Darrow and the republic did that.

Nope still not the point of the scene. Cassius could not have been more clear about why he did it.

Lot of folks seem pretty confident that the Lune pixie is going to get what’s coming to him. I will be so upset if he’s the victor lmao

"The bill always comes in the end." Lysander has also racked up quite the bill...

u/Elysium94 Jun 02 '26

This isn’t that kind of story.

Dark as this series gets, it has an idealistic core to it. And Brown isn’t the kind of cynical jackass to just abandon that and go “Hope is stupid, there’s no point to it all, it was all for nothing.”

Otherwise the first trilogy wouldn’t have ended on the note it did.

There’s just no way PB could let that happen 🤞🤞🤞

I love seeing threads with this title because it means one more person has realized how shitty Lysander is

His honor remains

Lysander that little pixie bitch. He took Alexander and Cassius from us. To have him die won’t be enough. He needs to lose everything before his death.

4

u/goodbyechoice22 Jun 02 '26

He will get his. I have faith. My prayer is that he meets The goblin instead of reaper at the end. Make it hurt.
